mixer - customize menu - symlink to desktop

#31 Post by Bene Belt »

hi

i love the style! jepp and with the right .sfs included it rocks my machine. but i havent figured out how to add panel miniprograms. like the gmixer. it was so handy just to use mouse wheel over the little icon, which is now missing. so i tried to symlink it to the desktop with drag n drop. didnt match. so how about th e customized task bar? couldnt i use the miniprograms anymore like "kill process"? or system monitor?

so long
Bene

@shri: Thanks for the feedback.

@puppyluvr:
Am glad you liked it. :).
You may like to know that Buddapup is the most visited url on Puppylinux.ca.

If you are familiar with adding new programs to the taskbar panel in Icewm, this would be the same way. You can look at the files in /root/.icewm/ directory.

There are Icewm experts like Whodo, Ttuuxxx and others on the forum who would know exactly.

@puppyluvr:

I do see around 5000 visits to the Buddapup directory. But I dont have a way to measure unique attempts or downloads.

On Macpup, I have the links on my server and can measure it better.

I used burniso2cd to burn both a single session and multisession CD. On my Thinkpad T61p, Macpup tries to boot, but I only get the "loading Stage 2..." text and then it reboots. So I don't really even get a Grub menu. I get into a boot loop.

Just thought I'd pass this along in case anyone else has experienced this.

@luverofpeanuts:

Thanks for downloading Macpup.

I am not a Grub expert and dont know what might be wrong. I have PM'ed couple of folks to see if they have any idea. Nobody else has reported this error. So wonder what might be wrong. Is the MD5SUM after download correct?

You can't run that from a taskbar in dingo, I've tried tons of different ways, Probably the best idea would be adding a quick launch shortcut to Wbar. I can add a type of "kill process" to blinky, I'll do it when I get some free time and submit a patch.

Thanks for trying Macpup. There will be an option to do a full install in the setup menu item. Please check it out.

I have macpup on the Asus EeePC and it looks wonderful. :)
Runs very smooth, only hiccup is the dock is just a tad to wide maybe 8%. So the finder and reboot icons are off the screen. Im going to dig around the config files and see what i can come up with.
It's funny how the colors of the real world only seem really real when you viddy them on the screen.

@hoki:

You can edit /root/.xinitrc and find for "wbar".

Change the current wbar line to:

Code: Select all

sleep 3 && wbar -above-desk -jumpf 1 -pos bottom -nanim 3 -zoomf 1.8 -idist 10 -isize 32 -bpress -balfa 80 &
This should make wbar perfectly fit in Asus Eeepc.

Limit on encrypted save size?

#43 Post by mentat »

Prit, great job on Macpup! I installed on a thumb drive in a 1GB partition. When I shut down for the first time, I selected the encrypted save option, but the maximum size it offered was 95MB. Any ideas on how I can up that to 200MB or so? Thanks.

@mentat:

Thanks.

Do you know if your thumb-drive has more than 95MB free space available? Macpup is Puppy Dingo with slight additions related to looks. So you may want to post a new thread on the forum asking for help with this.

Enough Computer?

#45 Post by daklander »

I like the looks of this version but upon running live cd it was really slow to boot and quite slow to react. The browser never did open.
The machine is an old Celeron 633MHz with 192Mb Ram. Is that enough? Puppy 4 runs fine, seemingly much faster than previous versions.

@daklander:

Macpup has only few things added over Puppy 4.00. If Puppy 4.00 runs fine, Macpup should also. There was some discussion on this thread concluding that Puppy 4.00 might require more than 200 MB RAM to run fully in RAM. Macpup may require a tiny bit more. Thats all.

'K, thanks.
I read quite a bit about Puppy 4 and some on Macpup. I used some earlier Puppy versions but stopped with 3.0 because I never could get the wireless working, something that earlier versions did. Version 4 was a snap and it's quite fast on that machine but the looks of this Macpup are very good. I guess I'll go ahead and do an install over the next couple of days and see how it runs installed. I'll report back.
Thanks again.

I just tried it on my Dell Inspiron laptop. It wil boot up, but a few minutes later I get the error message:
pup_400.sfs not found. Dropping out to initial ramdisk console...

Any thoughts? Lighthouse Pup 2.15 works perfectly on this machine...

@KF6SNJ:

Are you running a CD or frugal or full install?

It is created to look for pup_400Mac.sfs.

Booting from CD without any other version of puppy installed. Installed is PCLinuxOS. I know I could completely wipe the hard drive using Ultimate Boot CD, but I don't feel I should have to. I have had a similiar problem with regular Puppy 4.0 and PCPuppyOS on this laptop. Oddly, it is only on the laptop that I have this problem.
