I had no idea that the tgz2pet command existed. Fpr those of you that don't know, this command transforms tar.gz tarballs into pet packages, ready to be installed with a single click.

Yes rick it can be done that way, buttttttttt your best to extract them first if they are programs with menus, and set the icons to the right directories, open the ..desktop as text and set the file, like
icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/iconname.png
etc that way you get the right menu structure.
Also its also good to look at
usr/share/locales
and usr/share/docs
usually you can delete both folders and save a lot of space. Sometimes you can save 1/3 of the file size
next open a console in the directory your working on via the mouse
select Window/Terminal Here
then type
dir2pet foldername
and follow the steps
usually enter/name/enter/enter/enter
and thats it you just made a pet package.
Next time just install my Gslapt package and type amule, (first click update
)
it will install automatically

Thank you very much. A couple of things:
1.Is 'dir2pet' an alternative to tgz2pet, but for directories instead of tarballs?
2. Before I uninstall and reinstall, can you please explain '
extract them first'? Extract what and how (sorry
)
3.Also, would my method account for aMule being a bit unstable (x sesions keeps crashing and I have to restart 'xwin', specially if I open another prog)
Thanks a lot

Extract them basically means click on a tar.gz and extract the files into a directory.
If your working with a pet first you have to turn it into a tgz with pet2tgz then click on it to open it, then extract it.

Start amule via the command like by typing amule and then hit enter. Once it crashes it will report the reason why, usually
Then post your findings.
Thanks a lot

Open a console in the directory your working on or where you saved the file.
Right-click (on open space not the file) with the mouse.
Select Window / Terminal Here.
When it opens, then type:
tgz2pet filename
(e.g tgz2pet amule-2.1.3.tar.gz)
Press Enter & it's done!!!

Did you get aMule running?
Just in case, there is a portable version working fine in LuPu 520.
