Hey ttuuxxx,

Given the issues involved with Siag office, I'm wondering if there are any other good options for word processing and spreadsheets. I like the Abiword that you tweaked, but both that and Gnumeric are a little big for what's trying to be accomplished with this distro (IMO).

I'm wondering if the QT apps that you just tweaked up for 214X might serve here. I don't know enough about the dependency issues, kernel issues, etc. but I thought I'd ask the question.

I know siag doesn't work on any distro or computer I've tried it on (not in any way I'd call useable at any rate), so I'm looking for other options. For me, personally, any text editor that will give basic word processing functions and safe to rtf would work for a 'lite' distro. Spreadsheets could be fairly simple too, I would think.

Anyway, just wanted to put that out there while I was thinking about it.

Siag Office

I use siag in a different distro (Vector Light). It just about works but I use something else if I have the chance; for a start it seems you have to press the function keys twice and / or hard to get it to do anything.

IMO it's strictly for old and low-resource machines only.
Gigabyte M68MT-52P motherboard, AMD Athlon II X4 630, 5.8 GB of DDR3 RAM and a 250 GB Hitachi hard drive running Ubuntu 16.04.6, MX-19.2, Peppermint 10, PCLinuxOS 20.02, LXLE 18.04.3, Pardus 19.2, exGENT 200119, Bionic Pup 8.0 and Xenial CE 7.5 XL.

ndiswrapper not seeing wireless card in 301

#21 Post by mmmrr »

hello, thanks

i thought i'd give retro lite v2 a try on a p2, 266, 160mram toshiba
laptop which runs puppy 412, 400, 216 with ndiswrapper/wireless.

unfortunately when i tried to setup in 301 the w/less card was not
seen....the card's chipset is Marvell 88w8335 "Libertas" which runs
well with ndiswrapper on other pups. when i used pupscan in 301
and 412 to look at the ndiswrapper module the version #'s were 13x and 15x respectively

i wondered about replacing the 13x with the 15x, then remembered
seeing an ndiswrapper-x.pet, which seemed a better first step, however
i couldn't find the blessed creature so any help here is welcome

cheers, mm

edit...i tried putting the 153 version in place of 133, desktop and icons
went to black, but puppy was still running so i tried setup wireless again
but still ndiswrapper not seeing card...rebooted desktop/icons back...
i found the ndiswrapper-20090414-pup2.pet, installed it to no avail...

i'm posting from skinnypup400 on the same machine with the same
hardware working . when i search 'ndiswrapper' in the package
manager i see 2 results so i guess i'lll try with those. i'll report back
either way. cheers, mm

edit2...no further ahead, despite trying.
i know from reading in the forum that support for hardware can vary in different versions and presumably in their derivatives. i'm going to assume that's the case here, unless my modest knowhow gets some help to make it work...there are other pups/puplets to explore in
this nifty neighbourhood in linuxland, cheers, mm

did you leave dialup drivers in this release?

that was an issue i had with firehydrant when it came out .

like various pups it never detected a modem.

but i have appreciated your work/help in other ways over the years.

Just a quick note to say thanks, ttuuxxx, for Fire Hydrant !!

The day I discovered Puppy Linux I DL'd Inferno and Pizza. These two are the ones that got my feet...er, paws...wet. I would swap them out and run them for days at a time on my old TigerMax Athy 950 with 512 of ram and a 13 gig HD. Ahh...those were the days !

Would love to see a new Inferno in the future. Pizza, too.
