Ayttm

#46 Post by NathanO »

One item I noticed different is on the list of who is on line. In the chat programs in the older puppy's the 'Online' list is alpha. In Ayttm how do this? Much easyer to see if a person you are looking for is on line if the list can be alpha sorted.

Two other items:

Would be nice to have the 'Room List' out of GAIM.

On Preferences Sound would like the option to play sound when your name is in a message, but not other times.

Yo NathanO,

For the chat room list:
go to the main window ( has Ayttm & version number as title ),
select the Chat pulldown, select New group chat,
leave the Chat Room Name blank but select your irc local account,
then click on the List public chatrooms button.

I think that gives you what you want.

The other two things, I would like too.

An alphabetical Online list would be great, I'd also like to see a count.

I would love to be able to get a different sound when my name -
or one of my aliases is mentioned.

I will report them on the Ayttm buglist although, strictly speaking,
they are actually requests for new features.

This is fixed in the next Ayttm, to be in the next Puppy.

This is on the "Requested Enhancements" list.

Yo Béèm,

I have added both your posts to the Ayttm Bug Tracker.

I think Siddhesh is currently working on the file transfer. He is, however,
very busy at his job. He mentioned recently that he had been at work
from 7 am to 11 pm. He also has a 2 hour train ride each way,
although he can get some sleep on the ride home.

The bad cookies problem, as I told you before, seems to hit some
people - including one of the Ayttm developers. I don't know what the
plans are. It is likely to be difficult to debug if it can't be reproduced.

Hi GeoW.

Oh boy Siddesh has (discounting the 4 hrs travel) a 12 hour job.
Not allowed in Belgium anymore unless you are independent or the boss paying heavy on overtime bonuses.

He must look at his health first, it's too precious.

I had the understanding (reading Barry's blog) that the file xfer issue was solved. So it isn't. I'll be patient.

If I can help by doing dumps or other things to trap that cookies issues, I'll be glad to do so as not everyone has the issue.

I'll keep watching the product however.

Yo Béèm,

Thanks for your help. I'm sure if Siddhesh needs anything
specific he will let us know.

I was not clear enough. Sid said he is at work from 7 to 11
that's 16 hours - then add the 4 hour train commute.

And still, he often manages to work on Ayttm a little when
he gets home. I suspect that all the bigger enhancements
are being pushed to the weekend.

I agree completely, his health should come first. He seems
to be slowing Ayttm work a little. I cannot complain.

GeoW,
We only can be in admiration that he works on ayttm and take some sleep in the 4 hours left.
I can live with 5 hours sleep for a while, but then I have to regain strength by sleeping more.

Give him greetings and a warning not to play too much with his health.

Having another issue with ayttm, I tried it to get support in the irc channel.
I didn't get a reply.
The question is: How can the fonts be set for the different windows.
Specially the message window has such tiny fonts I can hardly read.

Yo Béèm,

You can change the fonts in Ayttm's preferences.

Go to the main window - The little one with Ayttm 0.5.0-81 as its title.
From the Edit menu select Preferences, the first screen will have the
current font listed and a choose button.

Whoever chose the startup font has very good eyes or a huge monitor.

New puppy user and the problems with Ayttm are kind of a showstopper.

1. It automatically turns IP addresses into their DNS equivalent. This is very bad, because one IRC server I use often has some issues with name propagation... so you lose your connection much more often with the name rather than the IP.

2. I can't find the configuration setting to auto-re-connect. If you're going to set me up to drop, could you at least *try* not to make it so I have to manually reconnect every time?

3. ayttm does not appear to support ircii standard / commands. /server doesn't work for sure, which means... oh joy, I'm forcing a reconnect through a gui. No wait, I'm forcing a reconnect through about 3 layers of dialogue boxes.

4. it makes noise. I cannot find the configuration setting so the program will be quiet. It hasn't driven me nuts yet, mostly because my friends are still asleep.

5. I can't find the configuration setting for flashing.

6. it doesn't appear to support multiple irc servers, which isn't as bad as the others, but it's still irritating.

Since irc is my preferred chat program, this is very annoying. Until now, I've never used an irc client that was so feature free. (note: I know graphical interfaces are great at hiding settings, so it may not be as bad as it looks... but since it doesn't respond to ircii stuff, I am very stumped)

I see several .pets for other chat programs. Pidgin, xchat, etc. SeaMonkey and Opera browsers have irc chat.

I, personally, find Ayttm to work perfectly with googletalk where Pidgin does not.

Yo Torrilin,

There is a button at the bottom of your chat window with a standard
picture of a speaker on it - this will toggle your sound on and off.

To get to the preferences - go to the main Ayttm window - it has Ayttm
and the version in the title line, pull down the edit menu and select
preferences.

Hope that helps,

GeoW

That's why I posted. I have found the preferences, and they do not cover *any* of my problems. I could be wrong, but I've dug through every layer of that dialogue box, and I haven't found anything.

The sound setting is for one chat window and one chat window only. It also resets to default every time you reconnect. Since there isn't a way to change the default, it isn't very helpful. There are no sound settings anywhere in preferences.

The documentation is no use either. The authors don't cover any of my questions, at any point. They don't even mention the IRC module. It isn't clear to me whether editing the .attymrc would do any good or not, and it's not even clear if there is one.
