Flash
Version is showed in Menu>About or by running pmusic -v in terminal

Oh, it could be issues with the attached pet....
.... But if I got you right, Pmusic ripped the CD in the format you liked?

Nice! Only issues so far is that there is a circular link to the pmusic22.png icon, easy fix for me, and the splash screen when switching between manager and wings is an empty window.

Sigmund, I've tried the new Pmusic 2.6.0, I just haven't had time to write up a report. Here's a short one:

The .pet replaced the old version of Pmusic and started up when I clicked Pmusic in the menu. I noticed that the GUI now shows the version number. Thanks. :)

I found the black-on-dark grey motif so hard to make out that I tried to change it. Noticing that the drop-down menu for View had a Classic option, I clicked it thinking it might have a white background. Not only did it have the same dark grey background but now I couldn't find a way to get back to the original view.

So I went ahead with it, squinting and peering at the screen. :)

First, Pmusic took over 8 minutes to rip a CD and convert it to 32 kbps mono mp3; much slower than my tests of any of the alternatives :( While Pmusic does save the export settings, it takes me an awfully long time to navigate back to the export window after changing the CD to the next one.

Numbering the mp3 files doesn't work quite right I think. For the first CD, I entered a "1" in the "Add numbering to keep sort order" box. The result was files numbered 0001_1,mp3; 0002_2.mp3; ... 0022.22.mp3 (That particular CD had 22 tracks.) For the second CD, I entered a "2" in the "Add numbering to keep sort order" box. The second CD had 23 tracks. The result was files numbered 0002_1.mp3; 0003_2.mp3; ... 0024_23.mp3. I don't really care how they are numbered as long as I can put the files from all the CDs that make up a book into one directory and they will stay in the correct order. I have a script that renumbers them the way I like, as long as they are in the correct order to start with.

Finally, Pmusic gives no notification when it's done ripping a CD. Pcdripper slides the tray out and barks.

What a blunder. Version 2.6.0 wasn't packed correct - which lead to some unexpected graphical results.

Now packed one more time, and tested on another pc.
Please install Pmusic-2.6.0-1 from main post.

Flash
- I will look at the double numbering.
- Pmusic 2.6.0 probably didn't show a progress bar during rip. 2.6.0-1 should.
- To get rid of the dark theme, please change 'Theme' in the preferences to Gtk.

Hello Zigbert,

Pmusic has a symbolic link in /usr/local/pmusic/locals for the english locales that is linked to:

/mnt/sdb1/prioritet 1/privat/prg/bash/pmusic/pmusic-2.6.0/usr/share/locale/en/LC_MESSAGES/pmusic

I do think: nobody and no puppy does have this location.

Shouldn't it be better a symbolic link to: /usr/share/locale/en/LC_MESSAGES/pmusic ?

RSH

BTW.

What do you think about another icon for pcd and/or pmusic-dc-player?

Thank you - packed yet another time and version 2.6.0-2 is uploaded. See main post.

Regarding the CD-icon, I try to keep kb to a minimum. Another 5kb for an icon feels a bit too much. BUT, I am playing with some new disc-art for Pburn..... but the future is vectorgraphics (I think).

If John Murga's maintenance doesn't fix it, I'll look into it after I've found the time to try out the latest version of Pmusic for converting CDs. Meanwhile you can rename the file extension to something the forum allows (jpeg or png perhaps,) with a note in the post saying to rename the file with the correct extension.

Yes, I can rename the file or compress it, but the image does not show up in the forum post (as for a png). It would be good to see support of svg-images.

message file

#1169 Post by shinobar »

Pmusic 2.6.1 has a message file at /usr/share/locale/en/LC_MESSAGES/pmusic. I think the file is better to be under the application directory, that is /usr/local/pmusic, because it is not a translation but one of the essential components.

pmusic_CD fails at the first time

#1170 Post by shinobar »

Installed Pmusic 2.6.1 on lupu-528.005. LANG=en_US.
Remove /root/.pmusic.
Run 'pmusic' ... seems OK (but fails connecting to the remote server).
Insert an audio CD, and run 'pmusic_CD /dev/sr0' ...OK.

Remove /root/.pmusic.
Insert an audio CD, and run 'pmusic_CD /dev/sr0' ... Shows the window but Never plays the CD.
Stop the pmusic, re-run pmusic_CD /dev/sr0' ... OK.
Stop the pmusic, re-run 'pmusic' .. Starts in the task tray, but Never shows window.

Hello Zigbert,

Just experimenting with Pmusic for listening to radio streams and pleased to say that these recent versions are working very well.

I can listen to mp3 and AAC+ streams from the direct URL and also it works if I enter the URL of a .pls playlist metafile.

I was wondering if it should be possible also to play wma streams because some radio stations do use this format?

I know Pmusic plays wma files OK, but streams seem to be a bit different. In WMP you have to use mms:// as the protocol to play a wma stream. Using http:// does not work. Do I need extra plugins or libs or something?

If I enter the URL "http://streamer5.securenetsystems.net:80/WFTL" into VLC it will play the wma stream of station WFTL in Florida. VLC media information shows the stream URL as being "mms://streamer5.securenetsystems.net/WFTL" but neither of these connect to the stream in Pmusic.

Any ideas?

There may be several issues. To get it simple, I tried:
Insert an audio CD. Then,

Code: Select all

# rm -fr ~/.pmusic
# pmusic -c
A 'Detecting CD' splash arose, and another GUI with blank playlist shows.
But never filled the playlist and never plays the CD.
The console repeats forever the following:

Code: Select all

/usr/local/pmusic/func_player: line 238: [: -lt: unary operator expected
/usr/local/pmusic/func_player: line 239: [: -lt: unary operator expected
/usr/local/pmusic/func_player: line 240: [: =: unary operator expected
Firstly, i suspected some infinity loop in the 'func_player', but...
Checked running process from another terminal, and found the 'func_cd -play_cd' and 'func_cd -read_cd' are running.

I suspect 'func_cd -read_cd' has got in an infinitive loop at line 28-40.
I looked up /root/.pmusic/tmp/cd-cddb.
It was only 1 line ( or 3 for some try) like:

Code: Select all

Type: ROM, Vendor 'PIONEER ' Model 'BD-RW BDR-206D' Revision '1.05' MMC+CDDA
The cdda2wav should give more output. But there left only the first 1-3 lines.
I guess the cdda2wav is called from the 'func_cd -read_cd', but be killed soon by another parallel process.

Pmusic supports whatever ffmpeg supports, and at the moment it does NOT support wma-streams. I haven't checked recent development of ffmpeg - it seems rather active - 0.11 was released the other day, and i haven't checked what news it brings.

Good to hear that (else of wma) it works for you
