There is absolutely no problem with the tray app.. it's the packaging that is at fault.

Firstly, remove the symlink from your tray-app pets, it's wrong and overwrites the good one leaving a stale symlink.

Secondly, the symlink which I presume is supposed to be /usr/local/pmusic/pmusic20.png is missing from the 2.9.7 package. Oh, I just discovered that the /usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22/apps/pmusic.png is missing from the pmusic-2.9.7 package. The only reason my icons were in tact before the addition of the newly packaged tray-app is I have been overwriting since pmusic-2.6.6.

However... the svg icon looks nicer in the tray 8) ... you can decide how you want to fix it :) .. a link to pmusic20 from the svg icon works for the tray but not for menu.. maybe you can put the absolute path in the DOTdesktop file to /usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22/apps/pmusic.png and make a relative symlink like this at the top level of the package to the svg icon for the tray.

Code: Select all

(cd usr/local/pmusic;ln -sf ../../share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/pmusic.svg pmusic20.png)

pMusic 3 does not require /usr/local/pmusic/pmusic20.png or /usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22/apps/pmusic.png, so I have removed it from the pMusic pet. Instead I added it to the tray-pet. But to be 'smart' I moved the icon to /usr/share/icons and left a symlink back in /usr/local/pmusic. This might be in conflict with pMusic 2, but in a fresh install, it should work ok.

I didn't know trayapps could use svg. That's great.
The best solution would of course be to rewrite trayapp to look directly for /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/pmusic.svg. The reason for not doing this is that I have not been able to run a 64bit system, so I can't compile it.

Already onto it.. I'll boot fatdog later and do 64

File includes adjusted source code.

And yes, I see....
...Because of the jwm-menu, we need /usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22/apps/pmusic.png in the pMusic pet.
And I have changed the icon setting in the .desktop file

I will upload a new one.

pMusic relies on the latest gtkdialog-0.8.2 which is not as part of Wary atm. Please update.

The terminal outputs are not related to gtkdialog and are already fixed for next release.

Thank you for testing

Why should you miss out on the pmusic fun?

I have compiled gtkdialog-0.8.2 [no vte], caps, alsaequal so you can test pmusic3-RC and Pequalizer.

gtkdialog : Note, the executable is gtkdialog, so will clobber the symlink to gtkdialog4, which is version 0.8.0. This is need for Pmusic3

Guys, please DO NOT install Pmusic 2.9.9 or be very careful. I tried installing it under Slacko 5.3.3 but it opens Pequalizer only. Then starts playing stream from http://api.jamendo.com - no chance to kill aplay, ffmpeg or anything: keeps playing even after CTRL-Backspace.
Very annoying.
Zigbert, could you check and fix it please?

Please read the instructions! It requires gtkdialog-0.8.2.. I guess I better link it to my above post

Also note that pequalizer must be the latest version, currently 0.9.0

Ok, they are posted elsewhere but I'll put them here. BOTH PETS are needed for Pmusic3-RC (2.9.X) in Slacko-5.3.0, 5.3.1 and 5.3.3 ONLY

Note that I followed the link from Barry's blog then nose-dived as written above :)
However, the funny thing is that Pmusic v2.5.3 under Slacko 5.3.3 offers the same masterpiece of Hoovers (Ride with me) but plays it much slower than its everlasting flavor in 2.9.9 :) I suffered both with my 2.5 GHz Intel Celeron, 2 GB, AC'97 audio.

01micko, thanks for the PETS. I will install them right now; give Pmusic2.9.9 a chance again then return to you.

Edited a few minutes later:

1. Pets installed,
2. Pmusic 2.9.9 installed, started. pEqualizer pops up, Pmusic icon in tray. Cannot open UI. Hoover auto-sings again (Slower than in previous non-UI case). Kills fail, CTRL-Backspace does not shut music down.
3. Reboot
4. Starting Pmusic from menu. No UI. pEqualizer pops up. Nothing heard from Hoover.
5. Start restoring Slacko 2fs

Thank you for your feedback.
I have edited the pMusic 3 page with links to gtkdialog-0.8.2 for many Puppy distros. Please also note that pMusic-2.9.9 is not a minor update (a complete rewritten core), so it is recommended to (re)move the dir /root/.pmusic to get a fresh start.

Pmusic-2.9.10 test

#1354 Post by rodin.s »

Slacko-5.3.6.5 with Firefox. Pmusic-2.9.10.
After start Pmusic hangs up inself and it hangs up all system. I run it in terminal and it appears to be that Pmusic's "find" endlessly looking for some of my files links in ./wine directory. It continues even after Pmusic's GUI is killed. It took few minutes to start Screeny to take a snapshot. Maybe "find" has a high priority and all other processes have to wait for it.
