Index file is rebuilt during a pMusic version upgrade, if file is stored in /root/.pmusic (default location).
New upload of pmusic-2.9.12

RC4 is getting very close 8)

Splash screen still gives trouble but does not interfere with anything.

Second run and my index is fine.

It should be ok to ship in my next beta.

Thanks

Splash is still a bit funny if closing from the tray app.

I'm a bit pressed for computer time atm, my little grand son is a little bit sick today and I had to keep him home from kindergarten .. so I have my hands full!

So I will be in and out....

Why gathering music automatically?

#1371 Post by gjuhasz »

Guys,

I doubt that auto-gathering playable files adds any value to pMusic.
A "search SONGS" button would be optimal but how to recognize that a file is really a song or something like the content of /usr/share/audio folder?

I bet nobody needs to play the list where "2barks.wav" is heard between "1Love.mp3" and "4SeasonsInAYear.ogg" :)

The on-demand search feature (with Location and Edit and Save options) that allow users edit/keep the lists (or decide to plug in another pendrive) is really useful. Enthusiasts need autosearch for lyrics and CD cover, why not? Real-time, why not? But as non-default options, as per my humble vision about heaven.

Valid opinions!

I agree that /usr/share/audio has nothinig to do in the db, so it's not there. But this is tuning of the functions.... Your main opinion to not auto-index I disagree with. It's fast, it simplifies usage, it extend the features, and it does not disturb the user. Unlike most players I have seen, pMusic 3 is just a simple audio-player.... but also sooo much more.

Wary 5.3 (Experimenting a bit with a full install for the first time)
gtkdialog 0.8.2 installed.
pMusic - 2.9.12

Splash screen "Initializing - Please Wait" stays on screen on first start-up of pMusic (flashes momentarily but comes back).

If I close and re-start pMusic it seems OK. Some stream formats don't play though. This may be an ffmpeg issue because they work in pMusic in Lupu and Slacko. Is this something to do with whether networking is enabled or not in ffmpeg?

Edit: OK, will try 2.9.13 now.
Yes, 2.9.13 is better, splash screen appears for a fraction of a second before the GUI and all seems fine.

Another edit:- I hadn't played around with pMusic in Wary for ages. Have installed Shinobar's ffmpeg and most streams do play now.

Installed RC5 with all the dependencies recommended here for Precise Puppy. The Pmusic GUI opened when I clicked on Pmusic in the Menu, and immediately started playing heavy metal. I shut that off and removed the radio station from the playlist, but Pmusic was frozen and would not navigate to a directory in the Sources panel. After much poking around I discovered that if I went to File -> Preferences -> Track info and unchecked Use track info db, the radio station would leave and Pmusic would then work.

I don't agree with your decision to have Pmusic automatically connect to an internet radio station and play a song the first time it is started. Yes, this demonstrates that Pmusic can play internet radio, but it also makes it hard for people like me to use Pmusic the first time. Besides that, there may be circumstances where a Puppy user will get into trouble for connecting to an internet radio station (frivolous use of company resources  .) There's got to be a middle way. :)

Image for 2.9.13

Only issue now is the ffmpeg dep check. Slacko-5.4-beta is shipping with ffmpeg-0.11.1 and I get [??] for the check. No big deal I'm sure.

Also, my issue, I added cdrkit from slacky.eu. It doesn't check for it in the deps check. Should it? I see it is in your pet.specs as a depend. EDIT: Instead I had cdrtools, a similar package but the official slackware one, it is different but many of the same progs are there. For now, I'll leave cdrtools. Do you have a preference?

Thanks

RC-5 testing

#1378 Post by rodin.s »

At the beginning everything was OK, but after few minutes I had the same problem with grey pmusic. Also progress bar wasn't working for some songs. It also can be quiet in this 'grey state' for few minutes and then music starts to play.
Now GUI just disappeared and another instance of pEqualizer started but I still see some messages in 'pmusic --debug' terminal.
Now only three processes left of pmusic:

Code: Select all

# ps | grep -i pmusic
10424 root 0:00 {pmusic} /bin/sh /usr/local/pmusic/pmusic --debug
23918 root 0:00 {pmusic} /bin/sh /usr/local/pmusic/pmusic -s stop
30564 root 0:00 grep -i pmusic

2.9.13

First install in LazY Puppy, first run in LazY Puppy. After some 7 minutes of auto indexing processor activity stays continuously around 80 to 85 %.

PMusic doesn't start.

Running from console gives output:

I'm using the 2.9.13 under SolidPup.

Dependency check: ffmpeg says [??]

In terminal, ffmpeg says

Code: Select all

ffmpeg version 0.11.2 Copyright (c) 2000-2012 the FFmpeg developers built on Oct 20 2012 22:47:00 with gcc 4.3.4
Is there something I should do regarding ffmpeg?

By the way: I have installed the last few Pmusic RCs without removing
/oot/.pmusic

Also, I have moved /root/.pmusic to /mnt/home/real-pmusic , and symlinked it to /root/.pmusic

I think it will be accessible from both the SolidPup and the Lucid Puppy Pmusic

pMusic 3 - RC6

This one should help where pMusic occupies your system at first run.
I could get the same behavior if starting pMusic from menu or terminal first time (not by clicking on a file in Rox) and there were no connection to internet.

There is no need to remove /root/.pmusic. But during test it is good to know that we run with fresh code. BUT when upgrading from pMusic 2 it is required.

For sharing, you don't need to symlink /root/.pmusic. You can define in the preferences where to store info. pMusic 3 only.

Dependency check ffmpeg [??] is noted. 0.11.x is just fine.

The reason for playing a internet stream is not to brag about streaming functionality, but simply to show user where to play.
