klavaro: A touch typing tutor

#1 Post by muggins »

http://klavaro.sourceforge.net/en/
Klavaro is just another free touch typing tutor program. We felt like to do it because we became frustrated with the other options, which relied mostly on some few specific keyboards. Klavaro intends to be keyboard and language independent, saving memory and time (and money).
I've uploaded a .pet here klavaro-1.1.9-i486.pet (491kbytes)

Updated Apr 12, 2009:
What's new in Klavaro 1.1.9:
Added:
· New CGI server for automatically updating the online ranking.
· Showing the error ratio within the statistics text for all modules.
· Showing also the score for the fluidness tests.
· Vietnamese default exercise files for velocity and fluidness modules.
· Colemak layout file: colemak_us.
· Danish layout file: qwerty_dk.

Changed:
· Disabling upload of empty scorings: must accomplish any fluidness test first.
· Text message files were merged into the po-files.
· English text for intro files were improved.

Removed:
· Old user server scheme (now any customization must be done at compile level).
To run, enter klavaro in a console, or Menu->Personal->Klavaro Touch Typing Tutor.

Hey muggins thats like the program I was teaching retired adults intro to pc's, I found some real good ones online also, flash sites.
Wouldn't the location on the menu be better in Menu->Personal->Klavaro Most newbee's to Linux, like the elderly would be afraid to go to the Utility sections.
Menu->Utility->Klavaro. <--- look at the name, couldn't it be called "Typing Tutor" I wouldn't know a Klavaro in the utilities from a hole in the head. Just an idea, great program as usual

error

#9 Post by raffy »

Thanks for this, muggins.
There was an error expanding package touch-type-tutor-klavaro-1.1.8.tar.gz.
Either the file is corrupted, or has not expanded into its own directory with
name of touch-type-tutor-klavaro-1.1.8/ (which is how most packages expand).
You will have to go into /root/.packages/ directory and manually clean it up.

This script will now exit...
Is it just me?

@ttuxxx,

you're probably right about the utility section...I can alter to Klavaro Typing Tutor.

@Raffy,

thanks for letting me know, as my uploads last night did seem a bit suspect, in that it took several tries to get stuff up, so it wouldn't surprise me if they were corrupted...will investigate further, cheers.

Well, I confess that I'm ignorant, but I don't know what User Name and Password to enter in order to download this PET. I'd like to use this program. Can anybody help?

Thanks.

If you open a console, (Menu>Utility>Rxvt), & enter klavaro, do you receive any error message?
