homepage: http://www.lesswatts.org/projects/powertop/
version:1.11

Quote:
Computer programs can make your computer use more power. PowerTOP is a Linux tool that helps you find those programs that are misbehaving while your computer is idle. The application that misbehaved the most was the Linux kernel. However, as of version 2.6.21, the Linux kernel went tickless, and no longer has a fixed 1000Hz timer tick. The result (in theory) is huge power savings because the CPU stays in low power mode for longer periods during system idle.

This tool could be used to optimize a kernel-build regarding power-consumption.

Compiled in 4.21.

hi puppyluvr,

that's my problem too. i think the informations provided by powertop are only usefull if

[a] one is compiling his own kernel...
[b] barry would include the additions into the puppy-standard-kernel...?!?

as i am
(1) not able to do [a] and
(2) i have not the knowledge, if the hints from powertop are usefull to ALL puppy-users

i'm lost at this point.

I've made the package because i read about the tool and i totaly agree with muggins to compile 'every' app one finds to enlarge the app-base of puppy.

cheers

I was recently thinking that I should compile a new kernel for my hardware....however, useful though this utility surely is, it finds very little use even for those who ARE compiling their own kernel.
Still, I am trying this out. I hope it helps in buiding a 'greener' kernel!!

I have just run again my Acer aspire this morning. Big default is heat, temperature. Your pet installed, to check if cpu less active will impact the temperature.
