I went through the standard Puppy 1.0.5 menu (well actually I am still using John Murgas "mean Puppy") to see which programs I use most / are my favourite

KP manage process - use this to close down the experimental Flock Browser when it gets stuck in memory - happens with Mozilla too
MUT - just like the ease of use in mounting
Pupget and dotpup - so much software, so few lives
Rox - well is there another file manager?
mtpaint - gets better and simpler with each release
leafpad - prefer this to Beaver - mainly because it opens straight into a text window
mozilla
sylpheed
gtp Browse, email and move files from / to a server
xtmix sound mxer = volume - yep I know it does more

and the winner is?
Rox - there - works - use it all the time (the only thing I have changed is the new icon set that is available as a dotpup)

Which are your favourite programs? Why?

my favorite's in no order.

1. Mozilla w/ plugins
2. Grip cd-player
3. midnight commander I use it to extract & compress
4. puppyPDF - great space saving tool
5. default rox-filer - simplicity
6. pmount responds quicker than mut
7. axel download accelerator
8. stream tuner/ripper
9. xnmap
10. start-items only reason I have this is because I have it setup to play a .wav file. It is my start-up music !

Leafpad - i havent used beaver yet so i cant compare
Gxine - Love listning to its radio
Dillo is good for quick checks on the internet
Xpaint
Rox i must say is so much better then Windows Explorer

Well, not a program but a feature.

My favorite is usr_devx.sfs

Other than compile and development I
- Browse: Opera
- Watch movies: GXine
- View pictures: gtksee
- Chat with my father: Gaim and Mercury.

That's it. Not a very demanding user, eh?

I'll second that and add to it the createpuppy script in Puppy Unleashed. Barry's stuff is just plain incredible. These two items allow me to use just about any programs in Puppy. I also think that dotpup and pupget deserve a huge thumbs up. If you take a look at how much software is now available because of dotpup, Puppy compares very favorably with all but the largest and most bloated distributions.

As far as other programming goes, I use Gimp daily now. I have to say, though, that I still use mtpaint for smaller tasks because it's just one of the nicest and most beautiful pieces of programming out there. Bluefish gets my vote too. Way more powerful than any other editor available.

My favorite Puppy feature is the dotpup. I don't think I've had a regularly easy way to install Linux software using any other method than the dotpup. It's just as easy to install the software as in Windows in most cases, and also in most cases doesn't mess up the system.

Several, but since today MPlayer is high on the list for me.

I bought the "Return of the Sith"-DVD (Star Wars).
As my DVD-Drive has some problems reading CDs/DVDs, I tried in on Linux and Windows.

On Windows (XP, SP2) I just got a red X when trying to watch it.
With MPlayer it worked fine, just on some places it made small breaks when trying to read the DVD.

Gxine works, too, but the mplayer makes it easier so select the different chapters (languages) on the DVD Smile

I watched this yesterday and is is great for fun and special effects. I am hoping very much that graphpup will focus on these aspects of multimedia, as well as the graphic tools element. Graphpup is an excellent Puppy distro. It seems to already have a clear path and will be of benefit to our community. Very stable from my play with it . . .

I just installed Mplayer this afternoon, and promptly replaced gxine with it. It starts up so much faster. I'm tempted to replace gxine with it in the next Pizzapup. I need to use it a bit more before I'm satisfied, though.

have a look at the "skins".

I chose the DVD-player-skin by default, as it gives you access to most options (just click the "DVD"-Button to play a DVD).
The bluecurve-skin for example reminds more to the Gxine-interface.
