Introducing Macpup Foxy

Macpup Foxy 1.5 is up!!! But the web is in the process of being updated . Until then you can download it from here:

http://macpup.org/foxy15.php

first , Thank you Barry for puppylinux. And thank you TTUUXXx for making the coolest stuff!!!And to Prit1 for the help making this puplet and hosting it!!!

About the name: Macpup + Firefox = Macpup Foxy !!!

Foxy has everything that makes Macpup so cool plus a bunch of extra stuff like, Gimp, Xvidcap,Picasa,Firefox with the Ifox metal theme,Java, Flash 10 beta (DONT WATCH YOUTUBE VIDS IN FULL SCREEN!!!) Audacity,Pawdio Converter,VCL ( by ttuuxxx!!!) Gxine and Xmms.

Extra games : Breakout,LinXtris,Xgalaga,ZaaaxxonRR

Flush-metal theme by ttuuxxx , Several macish backgrounds plus start up/shut down tunes!!!

The story behind Foxy....

I and several friends at work have be running Macpup and I had plug all this stuff into mine. They ask if I would make them copy's so I did . I had some trouble remastering Grub and I ask Prit1 about it.He was so cool and help me step by step setting it up. The remaster turned out better than I had hoped . Prit wanted to see it and I send him a cd. He liked it and put it up on his site as an official Macpup. So everyone else can check it out. Enjoy!!!

IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!!!! MACPUP FOXY 1 IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD!!! As soon as Foxy 1.5 is ready we will have it back up .We are making some changes. Firefox 2 will replace FF3 , all of the same apps will be included . Most of the changes will be in the artwork , It will be a lot less mac-ish.We chose to do ourselves, no one has said anything to us . Sorry if we hacked anyone off.Foxy turned out to be much more popular than I ever thought it would be . Thank you all very much!!

@kayan:

By any chance are you using websites powered by flash? Flash has been known to cause crashes in the firefox in Puppy. I have tried many fixes suggested on this forum, but its still buggy.

Macpup Foxy Cardbus Issues

#7 Post by chopper »

I love the look of Macpup Foxy. I just wish I could get my old Gateway Solo Laptop to see my wireless or my LAN card. I tried the auto config and get nothing. I tried the ipconfig and got nothing. No eth 0. I am using a RT2500 wireless card that worked great with ubuntu. I tried the wireless how to on the ubuntu forums and got nowhere. I tried the lshw command and it was no recognized. I am a relative noob. Just trying to learn a new trick or 2. Any suggestions?

I never have used wireless with my laptop so I might not be able to help you with this but you probably need a driver for that card .Have a look at this .....

Macpup Foxy Cardbus Issues

#9 Post by chopper »

Hmm..

iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions

ifconfig
lo Link encap:Local Loopback

I don't think that Puppy is seing the hardware. I was using WPA and turned it off, rebooted and still nothing. I believe that I need to activate the hardware. How do I do that? That seems to be the thread that I can't find.

The Latest

#11 Post by chopper »

Couldn't sleep last night and fooled with it for awhile. In he console I used the modprobe yenta_power command ad then puppy did see the RT2500 and I started installing. 2 issues
1) It seems that the driver in puppy cannot do WPA-the same card in Win 98 does WPA
2)As I was working on the issue the screen went blank and I ended up doing a hard reboot.

I think that #2 was an anomaly. Anybody have any insight on #1?

Glad you like my work 8)
I like the overall look of yours :)
Maybe the next release use my newer icewm package based on 4.0, its less problematic with older pc's and it looks way nicer

@chopper , thats more of a puppylinux issue than just a Macpup Foxy one, you might try starting another thread in the "how to" section to get more help than I can give you.

firefox 3 crashes like it's Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn...

Any ideas?

How can I remove it and put version 2 on there?

Or is Opera more available/stable?

Otherwise I love it... :D

I left seamonkey in cause some have had trouble with firefox3 you can use that if you wish its pre-installed, If you dont like that just do search of the forum for Opera 9.51 or newer , download the dotPet , look in the desktop folder for the file and click on it to install. You will need to edit the .wbar file in /root/ to add opera to the bar. It's a hidden folder just click on the eye on the Rox tool bar to see it.

I don't have Macpup running at the moment but usually to uninstall firefox you have you delete the following
/usr/lib/firefox
./mozilla/firefox
/usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop

once you find those files and folders and delete them. Then install
http://puppylinux.ca/tpp/bugs/firefox-2.0.0.17.pet
thanks to wolf pup for the pet package.

update

#18 Post by runtt21 »

I am planing to update Foxy soon. It will be Foxy 1.5 still based on dingo 4.0 . Foxy 2.0 will be based on 4.1 a little later. Catdude has made some amazing artwork for foxy and I want to get it out asap.I also intend to put Firefox 2 in to solve alot of the problems people have had with FF 3.

Update 10-11-08

I have finished rebuilding Foxy. The new 1.5 will have ttuuxxx's Firefox 2 in place of FF3 . I am waiting for catdude to make some revisions to the new artwork and it will be ready to remaster. This one will be a lot less mac -ish. It has all of the same apps, but I am not going to theme Firefox . Users will need to install flash in this one too. :D
