How would I load this cleanly into Puppy 4.11, please?

I know that a PET or DotPup has been structured to put things in the correct Puppy-specific directories and folders but have not had very good experiences with non-Puppy application and games.

WDYT?

I believe you have a tool called tgz2pet which will convert slackware packages -make sure you have downloaded the correct *.tgz file and not the sources (tar.bz2 archive)

Interestingly SuperTux installed without error and appeared in the Menu under Fun after a Reboot.

However, when clicked it does not execute nor does it generate an error.

However, when I open a console/rxvt and type "supertux" I get the error that it cannot find libSDL_image-1.2.so.0

This is on a Panasonic Toughbook CF-28

So, I loaded libSDL_full.pet then tried uperTux from the menu - it balced the screen then till didn't run.

So I opened console/rxvt again and types supertux again and this time got:

Datadir: /usr/bin/../share/supertux
Warning: No joysticks are available

Error: Couldn't load musicfile
/usr/bin/../share/supertux/music/SALCON.MOD

This appears to confirm my prior concern that tgz2pet may not handle all of the folder/library needs - is that a fair assessment?

I believe slackware packages can be installed by simply extracting archive to /

edoc run it from command line and type
supertux --disable-sound
it should work, did for me, with just a couple of sdl packages and no opengl stuff
ttuuxxx,

Ps if your still having troubles I can package it up for you after work tonight without sound.

That worked but does this mean that SuperTux cannot be run on either of my Panasonic Toughbooks with sound?

I tried the "autopackage" version without success but it was supposed to have a workaround for sound that bypassed the openGL problem - did I misunderstand?

supertux-0.3.0-nogl-0.1.4502.x86.package

I suppose it may seem cool to not have the sound when in the car but OTOH I don't know if they will enjoy it as much without the sound. I guess I can try it and see if it has the same "babysitting" value! :-)

Wow I figured you would be overly excited to finally have it up and running after all the post you made about trying to get it going. :? Anyways hope your kids like it without sound, Something which is good value for babysitting is always welcomed at my house also, Usually Bratz movie for the girls.
So we purchased a car dvd player with 2 LCD screens for the backseats of the car. :) That works great for trips also

I apologize for being so terse and not communicating my gratitude - I cannot express how much I appreciate all that you folks do on this Forum!

I did have SuperTux working without sound before - which is why I was chasing the openGL problem - but the smaller the packge of the app is and the fewer the resources used the better, esp. on this ancient CF-27 laptop. So thanks! :-)

Meanwhile I will download some of the other .PET games - perhaps some of them will provide sound for the kiddies ... on the headphones.

BTW: A few months back I posted a bunch of learning games for Linux - would it be worth posting them again in hopes that someone might package them as .PETs?

Yup, Pingus has been petted. :)

Looks cool. I'll have to add it when I have time.

Sorry I haven't been much help on the whole SuperTux episode Edoc. SuperTux works fine for me in Pup 3.01, but Puppy 4 won't run on my laptop so I couldn't have been of assistance. It's funny cause that error:

Code: Select all

Datadir: /usr/bin/../share/supertux
Warning: No joysticks are available

Error: Couldn't load musicfile
/usr/bin/../share/supertux/music/SALCON.MOD
was why I added MU's Doom SDL to Ttuuxx's packages as it supported mod files. I'll have to check it out if I ever get Pup 4 running.

After Edoc mentioned it I tested it out too, and when you click the actual download links, half of them take you to Freehostia's homepage, and the others display gibberish.

When you want to download a PET try Right click -> Save Link Target As... ?

The ones with the gibberish download, the others when told to save as display '6cH74VwS.html.part" (for example)

Thanks! I grabbed it from here:

And also the dependencies for Puppy 4 (includes libSDL and libboost_signals.so and libiconv.so.2)

x-soldier space war runs off screen and I cannot reshape the window.

This is on a Panasonic Toughbook CF-27 with a 10" display - xorg video is set to 800x600

The problem is on the vertical where the bottom of the x-soldier window runs off the bottom of the display.

Maximize-x, maximize-y, and maximize have no impact.

The kids are asking for enigma:
http://linux.softpedia.com/get/GAMES-EN ... 2613.shtml

and krunner:
http://www.tuxmachines.org/node/32726

Anyone make .PETs of either of these yet, please?

I think I may have opened a Pandora's Box with this Linux games thing!

Hey Edoc,

Just uploaded an Enigma pet, but I don't get what's with KRunner. It doesn't seem to be a game.
It's the "run command" dialog of KDE, it was already available for KDE 3.5.x, but it got a new appearance and functions, now it's completely plugin based, and shares your plasmoid theme.
:?

Enigma requires SDL BTW, but you've got it anyway due to SuperTux.
