What PUPPY programs are YOU using?
What PUPPY programs are YOU using?
I guess this should really have been a poll, but there's quite a litter of included Puppy programs (not to mention pupgets) , and I couldn't figure out how to make an un-complex poll that included everything.
So: What programs included with Puppy do you use most?
What program (besides Open Office) isn't in Puppy that seems a must-have?
Have you actually explored the programs you aren't using?

I say
Well as of right now I am really digging the pdf format, and all the linux
available tools to accompany pdf. So I say that we extend puppyPDF
for more pdf manipulation. Such as pdftotext for converting pdf to text.
Using pdftk for splitting, encrypting, "bursting" / extracting pdf, repairing pdf. And other uses that pdftk has as well.
Barry has done a great job on Abiword. So hopefully This too can be implemented. Thanks.

Heaven is on the way, until then let's get the truth out!

From Puppy 1.0.4 (Haven't used 1.0.5 enough to address that fairly yet.)aahhaaa wrote: So: What programs included with Puppy do you use most?
Xine

Beaver
Mozilla

Yes, many of them. CD burning was still highly unpredictable in 1.0.4, really need a decent financial management package that will interface with major products (Import & Export data), more comprehensive wireless esp. for devices needing ndiswrapper.aahhaaa wrote: Have you actually explored the programs you aren't using?
Love Puppy and am excited about exploring 1.0.5 (Just loaded on two laptops and a desktop), and am looking forward to 1.0.6 !

Re: What PUPPY programs are YOU using?
Most used (In no particular order)
Gaim
Netscape
Trying Sylfeed Email (still not convinced that it is as good as Mozilla mail)
Open Office
LinNeighborhood
Window Managers: Icewm and Fluxbox (wish I had Windowmaker)
Checked out but not really using ...
Bluefish HTML editor -- used it in the past, but will be trying it out this weekend again to update my site.
Abiword. I know it is a glue app for puppy, but it has always been the sickly cousin to open office. MSWord docs sometimes do not import very nicely. Still, as a default for a small dist like puppy it is a good choice, and there is always a chubby puppy
The wireless network gui tools I could not get to work correctly ... can't figure out there is a network around after I load the drivers ... but I'm not opposed to writing a script and just running that when I connect!
What would be nice?
Some sort of wireless signal strength meter.
Windowmaker
Mozilla Thunderbird
A weather ticker type program (wmweather-like)
Overall, one can't argue too much with the choices that have been made, for there are good reasons for most.
Cheers

There is a wifi signal meter in Puppy. It will be automatically launched by the next version of WAG, but you can start it yourself in rvxt with
xwifibar -a -w 3 -i INTERFACE
Where interface is ath0 or eth1 or whatever your card uses. Mouse over the bar to get a text popup.
It has a lot of fun options, read the docs for all of them.

Standard daily necessities I use:
Firefox
cd, rename, ls, cp, rm, mount, umount, gunzip, tar, unzip, mkdir
dotpup
IceWM
Rox
Other stuff I use a lot:
mplayer
stream tuner
xtmix
audacity
beaver/leafpad
dillo
wget
gftp
burniso2cd2
Stuff that should come standard:
Perl (or else wireless drivers)
burniso2cd2
I think that's all the important stuff. Now can we stop with all the "What do you use most" threads Just kidding. (Not really)
......Okay, I admit it, I just saw Dodgeball yesterday for the first time
EDIT: I mean the movie Dodgeball, just so nobody who hasn't heard of it gets confused.

Well, when I was back in elementary (around seven years ago now) we still played it, but with these squishy balls instead of kickballs. Maybe that's why I liked it so much I never realized it as a kid, but I was in pretty good shape. Especially for running. I was one of the only ones who actually ran in PE.
I kind of miss dodgeball now. If we tried playing it at my highschool, we'd probably get suspended. The closest we could come was when we played four-square in AP US History. (I'm not kidding. Fifteen eleventh-graders or so out in the parkinglot playing four-square. Those who didn't played hopscotch instead. And it wasn't about learning old games either. It was just for fun.)

Catholic school for me; I remember just once they brought out a cageball (what, about 8' in diameter?) for us to try. The gym was a combo with the auditorium- big stage with velvet curtains. Yep- ball (with several kids sorta attached) went right into the curtains and pulled them down. Nobody hurt, but never saw that ball again.
