What file extension to save spreadsheet for exel?

what is to the best file extention on saving on a spreed sheet that can be open with microsoft exel format

Open Office Scalc spreadsheet can be saved as Excel format.

Yes, the extention is not relevant, the format is relevant.

This is. Just saving it as myfile.xls does not make it a Excel spread sheet.

You have to select to 'save as' Excel.

Another thread reported problems, Gnumeric crashes.

I tested save as in excel format ages ago, it worked.

Anyway, 1.0.7 is scheduled for a Gnumeric upgrade.

What should i do?Should i install the new version of 1.0.7 gnumeric

so that my conterpart user of exel can also very what i have done with the spreed sheet.
