It was a real learning curve to get this fully working with "Spell check and extensions" working properly :) Have you tried the "Live Help" on the personal toolbr. Its a direct link to #puppylinux on freenode via Chatzilla. Kind of cool the way I got that going also
I like this browser more than any other, I'm sure Glad I started this project., I also was happy when I tried the delicious plugin, I knew you would be excited when I seen it working .

Link opens new browser instance

#18 Post by zgp152 »

While I am pretty satisfied with Firepup, I feel that opening a link leads to a new browser session often while according to the controls that I have selected in preferences, it should add a tab. Please go through the tabs related control and experiment with a number of link locations to look for this behaviour. I am not sure whether the html code of the page is affecting this.

It works well as it is, it is just illogical and adds to congestion on the bar at the bottom of the screen. I would like to have new tabs when possible.

Have you tried /edit/preferences and selected tabs in FirePup? Thats usually how you control those things. If it doesn't work, Just tell me then I'll start another long journey

I have ticks in the boxes where you have (in the attached image in previous message), but there are more controls that I selected, too.
a) Force ... | a new tab - SELECTED!
b) Select new tabs opened from links - SELECTED!

So I expected that clicking a link would always lead to a new tab, but it doesn't. As I said, it is not a bad handicap but not exactly what the GUI promises (as I understand the captions)...

@zgp152, ttuuxxx, I have noticed this also Firepup was opening new windows when I expected it should be opening new tabs. I guess maybe the default 1.5 behavior was different than 3.0. The settings in the screenshot seem to give behavior equivalent to Firefox 3.0.3--I am not sure they are exact (since they seem like what you said zgp152), but they are opening tabs for links in these forums.

Yeah, playdayz, you seem to be right. Maybe I had a "backflash". The new settings work quite well, I just did not remember to verify it before writing. Oops.

Only in one case I managed to create one more session. As Noscript blocked a link, pointing at the peculiar snake icon with mouse and right-clicking it, a new window was created as well as an entry at the botton bar. In other cases, a new tab was created or content of the current tab was refreshed.

I have been using firepup on a geode gx2 128mb machine (full install with swap partition) and firepup runs great I was even able to view youtube videos pretty well (flash only gets ~ 1 frame per second) using a trick from this forum link:
play youtube videos with player

This is ideal for computers with low resources and a perfect companion for firepup - does anyone know how to grok plugger or make firefox extensions/plugins that would do something like this

technosaurous,

Great to know that the Geode is holding up well with flash on Firepup. This was a major problem for me and the Dectop, flash just did not run.

Great job techno and great job ttuuxx. This browser has gone straight into my puplet.

thanks,

n4l

Hi Ttuuxxx,

Nice job on this slimmed down FF, quick, and slick. Only negative quirks would be the non-abilty to add wellminded puppy search and others to the search bar. Other than that I think I would use it.

Thanks Disciple, I already found how to do it on google, Its a bit smaller of code, I made 5 new plugins for FirePup.
to answer your Question, well this version has security updates, Its way faster than any 2 or 3 Series, and more stable, Youtube videos work fullscreen, plus other enhancements, like a direct link to #puppylinux chat on the Personal Bookmarks, It has a Spell Checker, Plus links to software, Forum, Custom themes, and a heck of a lot of updates/fixes. etc, plus I can convert it to other Languages etc. :) Plus a few other things.
ttuuxxx

Ps I have a newer version to upload, But having a bit of server problems, Once thats fixed, I'll upload it, With the new plugins and theme.

Haha. Nice going Ttuuxxx. Thanks much! :D

I don't mind using it now, but my sister doesn't quite feel the same about it. Not sure exactly why, but maybe I'll quiz her and give you some feedback :)
