Well this Is hopefully my final, any future releases will be security and theme updates. This has a working spell check, Basically you right click and select "Check Spelling" that will open a dialog box and under language select English/United States. Then close it and start over again, Once the English United States is set you won't have to do it again.

I added ChatZilla with a quick launch to #puppylinux on freenode, Just click the "Live Help" on the taskbar bookmarks. And wait about 10 seconds It will automatically open up to the #puppylinux at freenode
I also added FlashBlock to speed up your internet searches and safety.


Ps I might make up a suite version with email and web development if people have a need for it. I guess it would be a Seamonkey suite killer

Note Previous Firefox/FirePup users
Uninstall previous version via the puppy package manager
-Delete usr/lib/firefox or
-Delete usr/lib/FirePupv0.03
-Delete ./root/.mozilla/firefox folder (hidden folder)


Updated 9.8MB Version, 2MB compressed smaller

I want to ask, if I disable plugins I don't need Firepup will run faster? I know it is already fast but I use only basic plugins (fasterfox,adblock,flashblock).

Can you tell us which are main changes in new version?

Well Only spellbound might slow things down a very little, Really not even noticeable but then you loose your spellcheck, and its not easily reinstalled.
Fasterfox and Flashblock will speed up Firefox, And Chatzilla only uses resources when actually being used. so that shouldn't effect any speed.
When building these FirePup releases, I alway kept in mind first and foremost Speed. Like the default theme was around 1MB and I managed to make it around 400KB etc.
I'll slim in down in the future also, Probably with each new release, But that won't be for a while, Because I'll be working on the next Slackware release

Very good! I like to have light good apps on my pc. I'm enjoying this version. Flashblock is very useful and I like having bookmark buttons under "url bar". I used to be a window firefox user and with seamonkey I really missed that feature and home button too. Well, firepup those options missing in seamonkey. It's really a seamonkey killer

I made one last final update to v0.04 and called it v0.04.1 it was just some data in the browser that was none functional, anyways I change the link.

The menu font is too small for me. How can I change it?

It just installed 0.04.1, but the previous two versions have been almost phenomenal. Firepup outperforms the previously most responsive browser on my 900MHz P3 thinkpad 22--that was Opera. In terms of performance it is what I have been looking for. I had some trouble with the newer browsers not scrolling well but Firepup has none of those problems.

The only thing I am worrying about is whether it will be possible to continue updating Firepup's GRE (you see, I like it so much I am thinking long term). I believe I read that Mozilla will quite supporting Firefox 2 and I guess that means Gecko 1.8 also, in December of this year. That came from the Mozilla site but I might have misunderstood. Or maybe it just won't be on the main site but will be available in the archives? It would be too much to hope that this could be done with gecko 1.9.

After installing version .04 I am no longer able to automatically open local html documents in ROX. (Puppy 4.1 from CD and full install both) I just wanted to see if anyone else could still open them before I try messing around with stuff to try & break it further .....errr... I mean fix it. Not a big deal really - just makes it easier for editing web pages. Come to think of it this is the first time I have worked on the Puppy Web Desktop webpage since I installed 4.1 so it may not be FirePup at all. I will verify when I get home.

Nothing to worry about, I'll figure out something when the time comes
I feel a need for something like this and will continue the development of it.

Have a look at /usr/local/bin/defaulthtmlviewer with a text editor and make sure it's pointing to this new toy.

What should I do to improve colors on iGoogle page? I am not sure whether they are results of default settings in Firepup. If they are, I suggest changing them. At least for me (with some vision impairment of green & red colors), the use of red seems horrible against this background. Where are the settings?

Was the loss of SeaMonkey inevitable, or could it coexist? Now it does not get launched from the menu in Puppy 4.1 after adding FirePup.

It is great that with FirePup and Noscript, I can block IFRAME, to make the famous clickjacking ineffective.

1) At least NoScript accepts such a definition.

2) With NoScript, I have tried to force Google site www.google.com to use only https, but it is not fully effective. It bothers me that the first few email headers on iGoogle "front page" are in principle visible to other parties unless I use strong encryption with WLAN. Only when I click gmail, https is used.

I do not know whether this idiosyncracy is due to FirePup, Google or due to NoScript. It is not optimal for those who use public WLAN access points that are unencrypted.

I absolutely despise when a program "takes over" another. I have no idea why this program should "replace" seamonkey.

It happened to me a while back with one of the xfce4 packages. A link to Thunar replaced the rox command. What if I wanted to also use rox? After some digging I finally figured it out but I really hate when programs (people) do this.

Trapster I didn't make FirePup purposely take over and kill Seamonkey, Thats a bug and the next release it won't Heres a fix for Seamonkey so it works again.

It was a real learning curve to get this fully working with "Spell check and extensions" working properly Have you tried the "Live Help" on the personal toolbr. Its a direct link to #puppylinux on freenode via Chatzilla. Kind of cool the way I got that going also
I like this browser more than any other, I'm sure Glad I started this project., I also was happy when I tried the delicious plugin, I knew you would be excited when I seen it working .

While I am pretty satisfied with Firepup, I feel that opening a link leads to a new browser session often while according to the controls that I have selected in preferences, it should add a tab. Please go through the tabs related control and experiment with a number of link locations to look for this behaviour. I am not sure whether the html code of the page is affecting this.

It works well as it is, it is just illogical and adds to congestion on the bar at the bottom of the screen. I would like to have new tabs when possible.

Have you tried /edit/preferences and selected tabs in FirePup? Thats usually how you control those things. If it doesn't work, Just tell me then I'll start another long journey

I have ticks in the boxes where you have (in the attached image in previous message), but there are more controls that I selected, too.
a) Force ... | a new tab - SELECTED!
b) Select new tabs opened from links - SELECTED!

So I expected that clicking a link would always lead to a new tab, but it doesn't. As I said, it is not a bad handicap but not exactly what the GUI promises (as I understand the captions)...
