This time I searched the Forum for an answer but without success
The printer is a HP F2180 All in one
The suggested driver is contained in hplip-2.8.9
The computer is a Dell Optiplex GX100 with 256MB RAM
Puppy is v4.0
Opened the terminal Rxvt and changed to the Directory in which hplip-2.8.9 resides. Typed ./configure and after a while got an error message. The config.log file is as follows:
------------------------------------------------------------
This file contains any messages produced by compilers while
running configure, to aid debugging if configure makes a mistake.
It was created by HP Linux Imaging and Printing configure 2.8.9, which was generated by GNU Autoconf 2.61. Invocation command line was

From my limited knowledge of how to read a logfile, it appears that "gcc" and/or "c" and/or "cl.exe" are missing.
If this is correct, is there a Puppy repository from which I may download them, please?
If my assumption is wrong - and that is quite likely- would someone please point out what I should do next.
Regards from New Zealand on a very sunny Monday afternooon.

Sounds like devx is needed. It basically enables Pup to compile C.

Hi tenfoot,
Try this thread which has .pet's of HPLIP 2.8.9 and HPLIP LITE available for download.

Linux = Learning through doing  :? :D
The learning curve may be steep but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
You just have to pass the occasional oncoming train to get there.

Tenfoot, did you try the simple way already by setting up the printer with CUPS printer wizard?

Reporting back. Download was successful. Then I realised I didn't have a clue how to proceed from there (well I am a geriatric ). Looked here again and found Billwho's [post. Taking his advice, the driver installed successfully. Once I get off the Forum, I'll have a go at printing.tenfoot wrote:Thank you, Battleshooter. Downloading it now. Will report back.

Thank you. Did as you suggested and the printer driver is now installed. Will have a go at printing as soon as I get off the Forum.Billwho? wrote:Hi tenfoot,

Always good to know wat was tried and didn't work.tenfoot wrote:Yes. That was the first thing I tried but couldn't see the printer listed in the menu of HP printers.
Saw you might have a solution.
Success.
