I've been in your neck of the woods a couple times on trips, actually I would rather live in the sticks than live in Sydney, My wife likes it here, but I like the open outdoors better.

My girlfriend and I are very lucky that we both wanted to live in the bush and we were finally able to make the move this year after her teenage daughter finished school and got a job and moved to Coogee. Then you couldn't see us for dust.

I'm with Jeff, I personally prefer to have news accessible from within the puppylinux.org site, as a simple /news directory, with a little bit of a blurb about each item. The last time I saw this was the May 5 entry which looked like this:

-------------------
Friday 01st of May 2009
Barry Kauler Returns

Barry will head development of 5.xx series of Puppy
Warren Willson (Whodo) will coordinate some of the effort

Blog announcement

Available today is an alpha 6 woof build from Barry
'Jaunty Puppy' is an Upuptu or Upup
which utilises elements of the best of Puppy
and the latest Ubuntu streamlined with Puppy magic

Puppy 4.2.1 Final release is also imminent
-------------------

I'd be quite happy to keep it going like that if people can email me stuff that needs to go there plus I can keep an eye out on the blogs and make an executive decision if something looks newsworthy. I think each new puplet could have an entry, and certainly each main release. People could pm me with stuff etc.

Any thoughts on what constitutes newsworthiness?

If this is about the new website look ..

If this topic is about the new website look .. then my first fast impression

First of all: I get confused could not quickly go to the forum happened to have an old page open.

Too much reading

Is puppy ? > yes puppy is. Can you get ? > yes you can.

Personnaly I do not like the faq-language, double words, very inefficient.

Imo the old homepage is more efficient though there might be a more explanitive information under the bars.
Now you have to do too much reading before knowing anything.

\Sorry foir the efforts. Hopefully I am the only one.

Cannot even go straigt to the forum etc.

accident

Sorry, nancy, the page you saw is the wikka under construction (or it could be the static site used during forced server outage, ie, when the host shuts the site down).

There has been an accident at the server root, and I hope it can be restored in 24 hours.

which wiki for adding content

This is to announce to everyone that we are moving information from Drupal (including the Drupal wiki) to the new news site and wikka wiki. The relevant discussion is here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=44576

News and articles should go to the news site and manuals and documentation should go to the wikka wiki.

Apologies to everyone if this was not made very very clear. We've been having outages because of the "heavy" nature of the Drupal CMS as implemented at the site, so we are moving to light-and-fast version of things.

Prit is putting finishing touches to a "Puppy Dynamic" that will take in screenshots, puplets and comments. This will be useful for many ordinary users.

Most contributors should find the wikka wiki a good place to post technical information.

EDIT: A strange thing is happening - Drupal is causing "not found" error (this causes automatic redirection to the static site). Prit is investigating the problem. I have also requested Whodo to inquire from Hostgator about it.

I put an announcement on the old news page, giving the "News CMS for Puppy Linux" thread
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=44576
as the toipic to go to for permissions etc.

Is there a way to make a sticky item or a banner on that old page, or can it be redirected? If new items get added there then the announcement will get lost.

Done as suggested. :)

Well, as it happened, Prit has to restore from database backup because of missing "Home" pages. As a result, the news page is now a month late.

Sorry for the inconvenience, guys.

the original wiki is good up to aprox Puppy 4.12
http://pupweb.org/wikka/AboutPuppy

The new wiki is running the latest version of the wikka software
but will take a while to upgrade for Puppy 4.3 and beyond

The news page at this address has changed giving the links to the new places:
http://www.puppylinux.org/~whodo/node/a ... atest-news

But the old pages at:
http://www.puppylinux.org/~whodo/home/latest-news
and:
http://www.puppylinux.org/home/latest-news
are still showing old items and I noticed today a new item as well.[/img]

old date

Yes, a new item with an old date. Weird.

Take note, everyone, that this is the NEW news site:

see Barry's blog post

http://www.puppylinux.com/blog/?viewDetailed=00885

seems you have a derivative [?] not an official release,
but you should, it appears, specify build details/pkg system, rather than just rely on numbers
