see Barry's blog post

http://www.puppylinux.com/blog/?viewDetailed=00885

seems you have a derivative [?] not an official release,
but you should, it appears, specify build details/pkg system, rather than just rely on numbers

Curious.... "the 1.x series is not included on his blog "
You seem to be using '0' series 0.4, 0.99, etc?
'1' series I've seen is 1.04/1.06/1.08 etc

Barry is definitely the man to ask, [sign in at his blog, as I intended you to, to ask him] as I only came late to puppy at 2.14 :D

New web page

#128 Post by Minnesota »

New web page appears to be crisp... read most of it.... have one question
Section "Potential system software upgrades"..... who? what? where? when? why?

I am not new to puppy, nor computers, but do not have a clue what this section is all about....if the page is designed to introduce folks to puppy and give an idea where to get information....and copies of puppy... why tell then immediately after you get puppy you can upgrade it? Did I miss the point?

Would seem more reasonable to give information about puppy variations. And the forum for help.

migration schedule - June 13, 2011

#130 Post by raffy »

Hello, guys, long time no major website issues. :D

puppylinux.org is scheduled to be migrated to the new platform* on 13-June 2011 (I was just advised by email). The time shall be EDT (EST), so please take note, especially wiki users and admins.

--------------------
* I understand that there was a change of ownership of netfirms.com, and part of the change is migration to a new platform.

Unusual database server load

#136 Post by raffy »

There is a reported unusual database server load at puppylinux.org, so am restricting access to the wikka wiki to read-only until the issue is resolved. Thanks for your patience.

There is a security vulnerability report here. And there is a curious referrer below
(don't visit this if you are not sure about the security of your browser)
[URL deleted - too dangerous for everyday browsing.]

On the other hand, was there a recent mention of the Puppy Linux wikka wiki in a popular website?

Your help/comments are welcome.

Did some googling about that message. Looks like Anon hacked the Wikka site and will try to replace it (probably temporarily) with a protest message, if certain government actions do not go the way that they are hoping for (SOPA, PIPA, ACTA, etc.). It appears that they have done and/or plan to do this to a large number of sites, as a response to that legislation -- although it's unclear exactly what they're planning, I wouldn't be surprised if they had a way to bring most of or all of the Internet to a screeching halt with this sort of thing, if their demands are not met.

Personally, although I will go right out and say I am not a member of Anon and I normally don't like what they're doing... this time they have what I would consider a very valid and important point. Were it me (and I understand that it isn't), I'd leave it there in (more or less) silent support. I don't approve of their methods, but I understand why they are there: when the established channels are ineffective... people get creative

It might also be worth pointing out... if they've gotten into that site already... they almost certainly can (and will) re-hack the site if it's reverted.

Since I'm using a sandboxed browser and am relatively secure, thought I'd post a screenie from that link.

EDIT: url removed.

What a nice idea!

Hacking supporters sites.

I think most puppy linux users do support anti sopa movements etc.?

What a nice idea!

Some statistics from germany:

In germany a survey found out that 50% of 14 to 29 years old people had already downloaded illegal files from the internet (chip computer magazine, www.bitkom.de). In germany we do have a political party (mainly acting about internet freedom) that is voted mainly by 18 to 29 year old people - so by most exactly those users who had already downloaded illegal stuff from the internet.

In my own experience i can tell, that most people i do know within this (18 to 29 year old illegal download) community are windows users. So, to me there is no surprise about sopa and similar movements.

These guys are digging our graves!

What a nice idea!
