Tmmxine Dark Force edition November 2008
is designed as the tmxxine.com work horse

Guys, TmxxineDF includes the software and setup I need
I am uploading it as a courtesy for those with similar needs

The Lit program will autostart on the second boot
or after you click on the pink bar on the top of the screen (that helps you 'get started')

100% Puppy Linux compatible - remastered rather than unleashed
No major configuration changes from Puppy 4.1.1 Standard

contains Open Office, Gimp
and major programming languages

with the option to easily download further major software
including:
  • Chrome from Google requires Wine
    Compiz-Fusion Extreme 'Eye Candy'
Ezpup Improved look and feel centered around IceWm themes
    Filezilla 3.0.10 3.2MB
    Firefox 3
    Flash
    Fortran programming language
    Gizmo Free 'Internet phone'
    Java for end users
Kompozer and NVU HTML WYSIWYG editors
    Opera Browser
    PHP programming language pet
    Midori Browser
    Ruby programming language
Skype VOIP - video phone over internet
    Transmission Bit Torrent
    VYM Mind mapping software
    Wi-Fi extra support
    Wine Run Windows programs
    Wink Screen recorder
    WxLua Programming language
    Xfce Window manager
    Xvidcap Screen recorder
I am running this with 512MB of ram (that is why all SFS not loaded as default)
but to have all SFS running from ram would recommend
1 Gig of Ram

Default programs included (also comes with complete Puppy Linux 4.1.1)

OpenOffice
Gimp 2.4.6
Lit add 4.1.1 major software Auto startup - to remove go to file Startup and move to another directory
Python (under Utility)

as SFS
to use select the following SFS select
Menu / System Boootmanager / configure bootup
devxx 4.1.1 SFS (includes Glade IDE, Assembler, C and C++, Freebasic)
java + netbeans SFS (jdk_netbeans-1.6u10_6.1.sfs) to have java in browser add this, go to Edit / preferences / advanced and click on java reboot and reboot)

It does not take long to remaster a setup
so the credit belongs to all those contributing to 4.1.1
and compiling SFS and .pets

Raffy has laid out the basic procedure here:

Yesterday the Tmxxine server bandwidth was exceeded. Apologies to those who were unsuccessful at downloading

You can remaster your own Dark Force or other puplet easily enough
here is how from Catdude
http://tmxxine.com/wik/wikka.php?wakka= ... emastering

As well as OpenOffice and Gimp, Python is an important component
of TmxxineDF
http://tmxxine.com/wik/wikka.php?wakka=PythonASQ
What will you program?

Also be aware that having Python installed may open up security risks

 Today I am wondering if I should have created DF with the pets installed - created the ISO
and used the menu / Multimedia / IsoMaster Iso file editor
to add the SFS?

Anyone done this? :)

The reason - well where are the SFS? In the 'pup_411.sfs' copied to the hard disk? That should be renamed by the remastering software, when choosing a name for your puplet.

The sfs-bound files are in /initrd/pup_rw when you are using the pup_save file. You can inspect the pup_rw and copy from the normal file system (ex., while looking at /initrd/pup_rw/etc, you should copy the chosen files from /etc, so you avoid copying the whiteout hidden files. (Or you can copy direct from pup_rw and remove the whiteout files later.)

Bandwidth Limit Exceeded
Best regards,
Your Servage.net team

Hmmm but seems to work ok when you right-click and 'save link as' !?

Hmm maybe not. My linux skills are really going downhill. I can't even download an iso these days :(

Lobster, you should password protect the folder with big files like Isos.

There are bots sucking bandwidth from servage.
If you post the password here, they will not know it, so your users still can access the files without problem.
Like this the bots are kept out, and you should not exceed the bandwidth limit any more.

You can set a password for a folder with the Online Filemanager by clicking on the yellow locker icon on the right side of a folder.

On puppyisos.org like this I could reduce traffic from 200 GB to 15 GB/day (rough values).

Tmxxine 4.1.1 torrent

#9 Post by BobSongs »

I've been ISO hunting today. "Exceeded bandwidth" on several occasions. *sigh*

I read this link, http://torrentfreak.com/how-to-create-a-torrent/, just a few minutes ago. You may not be tempted to click the link and read it, but here's a snippet. I'll let you decide whether the rest is worth reading:

[quote]Torrents are great, they are the best way to share large files with your friends, or even with people you don’t know at all. But surprisingly, not many people create torrents when they need to share something.

Noted; bookmarked.

When I torrent, I try to give back as much or more to the community. Some downloads have no upload requests though.

I'm just kinda miffed that someone hacked (cracked) the http://ultimateedition.info/ site and deleted their torrent files. If I had a copy of the ISO downloaded, I'd be sharing the file now. I use Ubuntu Ultimate Edition as my PC's OS and Puppy Linux for my USB memory stick's emergency boot system.

Vampire bots? Gosh . . .
To be honest I did not expect so much interest and am sure it will die down in a few days.

I will try and update LIT so that people using Puppy 4.1.1 retro can set up their system.

I would encourage people to download the SFS and pets they need and create their own personalised puplet based on Puppy 4.1.1
which they can easily do with LIT

I am glad someone has liked DarkForce.
I did not do a good enough job with it.
I suggest people install develpup and LIT3
this will provide a much better environment for development :)
