Another KDE usr_more.sfs from BK
I was working on Krazy Puppy awhile back, but stopped due to some
problems that I couldn't solve.
As the interest in KDE is high, and there is another fine project underway,
I thought it a good idea if I package up what I have done and make it
available as source of extra ideas. I don't intend to do anymore with this.
You get it from here:
http://www.pupweb.org/test/
It's 45M and includes the apps in kdebase, kdenetwork, kdegraphics, plus
KOffice (office suite), K3B (burner), Kaffeine (multimedia player), Krecord (audio recorder), Filelight, and Guarddog (firewall).
Perhaps parts of it could be used in the other efforts, or someone might be
inspired to work on its bugs (listed in the above link).
Note, it was all compiled in Puppy ...which wasn't exactly easy!
Note also, Konqueror has the Adobe Flash plugin -- Konqueror is
actually quite a nice web browser.

Well at first try it is kinda buggy, but it works on a hd2 install.
As for kopete no yahoo plug-in.
kpdf is very nice.
konqueror- does anybody have a good configuration file already setup ?
If so delete your important info and post it for other's, thank you.
Will test more tommorow. Thanks Barry will put on news page as testing release also.

woosh . . .
Not sure how fast your version is but this is faster than any other KDE . . .
I used Barrys instructions to install which are quite straightforward (you will find them at the download site - I copied them into Beaver)
Be interested how others get on . . .
The only part of the instructions I did not understand was about uninstalling QT programs - so I just ignored that . . .
I also had an existing usr_more.sfs (Open Office 2) which I moved into a directory created on my HD - What I am gonna do is see if I can swap between Open Ofiice Puppy and KDE Puppy - by making use of these two files (but that is for another thread)
However people are reminded this is still experimental.
For example I moved into fvwm95 to see if I could call it from there
- Gimp would not work and when I returned to JWM, Puppy crashed (this is the first time EVER - even in testing - Gosh it was like being back in Windows (the wilderness years) running with version 7 software . . .)
So I had to turn my machine off and then back into JWM
So I suggest all testing is safest from JWM
Not all the programs (some of the file managers) are working fuly. There is enough here though to be excited about. I was very impressed to see the screenshots of Bombayrockers KDE - but decided to hang on a bit longer . . .
It will be interesting how other KDE programs are installed and made available
. . . what fun . . . Did someone say Puppy was a toy OS?
Pah - this is seriously fast and so small . . . (did I mention cute)
Once you have installed this great Alpha Puppy module
go to /usr/install-kde with Rox and turn on the hidden directories (right click / display)
Now you can go into root0 and see .kde and .qt (hidden directories to keep out the uninitiated cructaceans)
/usr/local/kde/bin/
contains a link to write (another working KDE WP) and Kleopatra encryption (does not seem to work)
I am now looking for a way to change the Kword default load document which I set and has now effected a configuration file so I can not run it anymore . . .
Whatever next for Puppy? m m m . . . how about voice recognition (we may need ALSA for that first)? ah yes Puppy gets smaller (puppy Barebones) Puppy gets bigger (Chubby Puppy) and Puppy gets better all the time . . .

however I made parallel install of barrys konqueror on my version of kde then navigated to it using rox and then xterm -> ./konqfile & ./konqweb
-> configure konqueror -> is working on my box
If i got it right this error mean that konqueror->configure konqueror does not show anything.Konqueror Preferences window is empty, but you can still edit config files in /root/.kde/share/config/.

If you had previously installed the PupGet qt-3.3.4 library, if it was doneLobster wrote: The only part of the instructions I did not understand was about uninstalling QT programs - so I just ignored that . . .
prior to 1.0.6 it is not right. I had to recompile Qt with SQL support
enabled. The latest PupGet qt-3.3.4 is okay.
But, my usr_more.sfs has Qt on it, so the PupGet is not needed.
Other Qt apps like Scribus are okay, can stay installed.
/usr/install-kde/ is only for installation. The install script copies stuff toLobster wrote:Once you have installed this great Alpha Puppy module

/root/. After that, you can look in /root/.qt/ and /root/.kde/ for config files.
If this thing was ever made into a Unleashed pkg, no installation script
would be needed.

The challeng would be to set it up somehow so that you could progressivelybombay_rockers wrote:BarryK wrote at pupwebIf i got it right this error mean that konqueror->configure konqueror does not show anything.Konqueror Preferences window is empty, but you can still edit config files in /root/.kde/share/config/.

remove your underlying installation, until you find what it is that Konqueror
needs to bring up the Preferences dialog properly.
In my case, the dialog window does display, but it just has some text, something like "Empty page".
Note, I found that the actual text that displays in the Preferences dialog
window, when it is working, is in the files /usr/local/kde/lib/kde3/kcm_konq.so and kcm_konqhtml.so.

bombay_rockers,this version of kde would be faster than the one i had posted because it was compiled in puppy. can some one confirm this.
Nah, not that you would notice.
I compiled with some options to suit the current Puppy setup, such as no CUPS support. If your binaries work, then it is fine, stick with them -- much easier
to grab someone elses binaries, makes upgrading easier too!

about speed
BarryK i read on the kde forums at dot.kde.org about an incident where a person recompiled kde on his system not did not register much increase in speed. however when he recompiled his kernel on is system he registered 40% increase in kde speed.
Would recompiling the kernel on my system increase the speed of puppy in general and kde ?

I don't see why there would be any noticeable speed improvement.bombayrockers wrote:BarryK i read on the kde forums at dot.kde.org about an incident where a person recompiled kde on his system not did not register much increase in speed. however when he recompiled his kernel on is system he registered 40% increase in kde speed.
