CMS, History

#16 Post by raffy »

That was not a joke, really, it was part of the history of CMSimple, which to me sounded fun to recall :)

Oh, that part you quoted last, i deleted just after i made the post last night.

I realize now this topic should be CMS in general for the puppylinux.org site - this seems to be your intention. So the choices should be:

1. The current (the Wiki)
2. PHPWCMS (as suggested above)
3. Drupal
4. PHPBB with CMS extension
4. Other - let the readers make suggestions before running another poll

When you started a topic about CMS earlier, I pointed out that one feature needed will be support for groups. CMSimple maybe supporting this but through a shared password. Perhaps there can be a better way, an alternative CMS (my work not counted).

Maybe I have assumed (while working on the Foundation pages) that the Wiki is there to stay, and it will be the default CMS for everybody (including the public). So I have concentrated in generating an alternative publishing tool for individual members (a service essential for the members' use of images, especially for the Wiki). So while am keeping those pages, consider me as the admin (which i am really, at this time - this wont be for long, though).

Sounds like a good move.

Many websites use both wiki (which is a low-level cms), and another cms (to manage the 'stable pages'). This thread is not about wiki and I don't think people want to replace it now. If in the future people think that they don't need it anymore it can be removed by that time.

We have been testing CMSimple and php-fusion for quite sometime and people have been discussing them. I don't think those efforts should be wasted. Also, people may prefer "CMSimple + your member's pages" (here's an example showing how the pages can be integrated using scripting; links or redirection can be used instead of course). So please let them choose.

Another option: a very simple php script, like your ftp tool, can do that very well. Using that they can upload images easily :)

So this is the revised choices:

1. PHPWCMS
2. Drupal
3. CMSimple
4. Php-fusion
5. PHPBB with CMS extension
6. Others

Just a little comment

I always kinda liked XOOPS when themed correctly and with the right modules ... With some PHP hacking it is easy to customize too.

I have used it a couple of sites and it worked well.

Cheers
