dialup issues!! Subject description: serial modem that half works only.
Firstly i'll say I am new to linux. I have done a full install of Puppy 4.1.1 on to the hard drive and it seems to be all working fine. I recently purchased a Swann smart prosurfer modem and attatched it to ttys0. Probing detects the modem. After entering all the relevant (and correct) fields such as number,usrnme,psswrdetc.., the modem dials (noisily as it should) - makes the fax/data noises and then persistently times out with a NO CARRIER log. I have made all the adjustments as far as the unticking of boxes (no carrier, busy check etc..) but no combination seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated and Thnx in advance!!
if the modem reaches the phase where the sound is
turning into random noise then it has already switched into
ppp mode - that means the connection is successfully established.
You should check your modems serial cable, maybe the
CARRIER signal line is broken.
You can also try to experimentally remove the following line in
your /etc/ppp/chat-script
