Quote
I have not used Puppy before, in part because I felt no need considering the many distributions out there, and in part because some things like its ORIGINAL UBUNTU ROOTS did not appeal to me, but a Puppy based on my favorite Slackware needs to be checked out.

The review is reasonable but the quote above (capitalisation mine) narked me off. Obviously a Slackware fan and anything else does not deserve consideration.

I know too little but this part
like its ORIGINAL UBUNTU ROOTS
How known was Ubuntu when Barry Kauler started
making his first versions?

Edit hahah I was wrong 2003 he writes this
22Dec03

Puppy version 0.7.9 is uploaded. The ISO file is 44.2M. Release notes:

* This version is still "Redhat based", meaning that Puppy requires a i686 class of CPU minimum.
So Red Hat and not Ubuntu. When did he favor Ubuntu?

2004 he writes

The development environment used to compile Puppy applications is not another distro, but is a custom root filesystem put together by Erik Anderson, the main developer of uClibc (www.uclibc.org)
Did he not base it on Slax or Debian I should read up on
Puppy history but if Barry had been inspired by Ubuntu
then he had not allowed Puppy to be root ever :)

Ubuntu is or are very keen on not ever be root.
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though
