Well these are 2 of the best learning games for your kids enjoy :)
You need all 4 of the SDL libs installed to play the games
http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/old-stu ... 3-i386.pet
http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/old-stu ... 6-i386.pet
http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/old-stu ... -smpeg.pet
http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/old-stu ... 9-i386.pet

@@@Attention@@@ uninstall your sdlmixer and upgrade above, For sound in SuperTux
and now to the games

TuxType

TuxMath
http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/old-stu ... 0-i386.pet

TuxPaint
http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/old-stu ... 0-i386.pet
+ additional addon package, not needed to run TuxPaint but gives 29MB pet of extra stamps for the kids to play with :)
http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/old-stu ... STAMPS.pet

SuperTux <---WITH SOUND :)
Well for sometime people have had issues with starting this game, or opengl, etc, well I managed to work out the SDL version with sound.
If you have any SDLMixers installed, uninstall them first and download the one above or below:) You have to use this version of SDL mixer for it to work properly, This is the only game from the bunch I didn't compile but I figure that it goes good with the feel of things and plus it finally works real easy :)
Packages needed are

http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/old-stu ... 3-i386.pet

I wiped everything with SDL in the name and loaded the following:

SDL_1.2.13-i386.pet 1498k
SDL_image-1.2.6-i386.pet 115k
SDL_mixer-1.2.8-i386-mod-smpeg.pet 426k
SDL_ttf-2.0.9-i386.pet 42k
SuperTux.pet 7542k

SuperTux still comes up complaining about OpenGL and no sound.

What did I do wrong?

Ok how I figured this works is
I booted a live 4.0 puppy cd and installed the packages and it worked. Perfect from the menu, nothing else installed, really I did this one for you and your kids :) spent a day on google and found out something, on older linux versions eg. puppy 3, xmms had a mod plugin that would be be called, right around that time, gtk2 came out and also sdl brought out a new version of sdl_mixer and it had a fault for mod sounds, a double "oh no" unknown to myself my previous version did not have a chance to work, then SDL_mixer added a mod plugin for the sound, so basically that package contains sdl_mixer, and the mod plugin. Hmmmm how about this
save the files to your hd, then reboot puppy with a clean live cd, and use
puppy pfix=ram
so your in ram mode only, no previous files. For testing only.
install only the 4 packages, earlier you stated 5. 5 should work because I have like 7 sdl installed
http://www.puppylinux.asia/tpp/ttuuxxx/ ... perTux.pet
http://www.puppylinux.asia/tpp/ttuuxxx/ ... -smpeg.pet
http://puppylinux.ca/tpp/ttuuxxx/progra ... 3-i386.pet
http://puppylinux.ca/tpp/ttuuxxx/progra ... 6-i386.pet
then fixmenus , restart JWM and try to start it from menu/fun

Ttuuxxx thanks so much,

I have installed them all, and they all worked well.
No problems I have found with sound or anything else.
I have Puppy on an 11 year old Pentium 3 that was our first computer I was going to donate to the Salvation Army that now sits in the living room next to the newer one.
Puppy has revived it now, and it keeps my kids from fighting as much over the new one as well as having become my primary computer now that Linux is on it.
I find I don't use the new Vista one at all anymore, that has turned into the gaming computer for the kids.
My kids and myself thank you for your efforts.

Blessings,
Tom

I would like to try this one out. Presently, I have SDL 1.2.13 and SDL 1.2.13-muppy0084 that I got to use a few games. If I replace these as instructed for installing the Supertux games, will that interfere with the way my other games work/sound?

no it shouldn't, but you could leave them in and just install the others you don't have, the one you do need is the sdl-mixer, this one is compiled differently then any others that I've came across so far, due to the 2 added extra programs.

If anyone has a low-end graphics card with GL support, you can use the older version of supertux. I have sources and a slackware package here:

Hi ttuuxxx,
thank for tuxpaint!

I just would desire a larger window: I just get the tuxpaint window not larger than about more than 1/4 of the screen area...!? Clicking on the 'enlarge' key in the above right corner of the window does not changes anything (nor enlarge nor minimize).

Is it possible to select+cut+paste or copy a selected area?

I also noticed that the drawing are default saved in the /.tuxpaint/saved folder isn't ? THer is no 'save as' dialog box.

Could you help?
many thanks for your answer
Charlie

Did you try left clicking and holding the bottom right corner with the mouse and dragging it larger, ?
If not remind me in a week and I'll try to work it out, Its just that right now I'm working on 4.2 release and I can't install any extras like sdl, for compiling purposes.

Hi ttuuxxx,
ttuuxxx wrote:Did you try left clicking and holding the bottom right corner with the mouse and dragging it larger, ?
Yes, I did.
I cannot catch or hook that corner nor drag it....nor the others...
So I can wait until you could fix that..;...keep cool with this...
Many thanks in advance...thanks for tuxpaint.

(I am testing it for modifying drawings I receive by fax or by e-mail (with efax-gtk, dragging its file in /.tuxpaint/saved and renaming its extension to .png so they are present when 'open' a file with tuxpaint) - A4 pages looks rather little and therefore difficult to draw on).

Cheers
Charlie
