Lucid 525-lite as a backing track player

#1 Post by gaz1965 »

I am looking for a lightweight O/S to Install on the harddrive of an old Toshiba Laptop.

The only application that is needed will be Audacious & Media codecs.

The reason for choosing Audacious is that it allows a single track to play from the playlist then stops until next is selected.

If I install lucid 525 -lite how do I get the Media Codecs / Audacious loaded onto the system. Does lite include the package manager?

Any reply gratefull

Hello gaz1965,

Yes Lucid lite has puppy package manager and uses lucid puppy 525 packages:
Menu > Setup > Setup Puppy > Puppy package Manager

If you look in the first post of the lucid lite thread for media codec what you want to install is the Mplayer.pet and Audacious is in the puppy package manager.

If you have any problem let me know in the lucid 525 lite thread and i will try and help.

Thanks for the reply.

I tested the Lite version out on virtualbox then installed Audacious 2.4.0.lucid
This worked great & I didn't even have to load any codecs to play MP3 files.

Just one question though.

What's the difference between Audacious 2.4.0.lucid and 2.4.0.lucid51x
The latter is larger in size.

Hi gaz1965
Glad you got it working - I don't know much about Audacious but the lucid51x version will have been made on the previous Lucid Puppy.
