i'm preparing those now.

while i do plan to update some stuff, i don't have too many plans to attempt 12.2 compatibility just yet. the 3.xx road is a very, very long road. And the community just began the road.

But with this road, we can prepare for the future.

We could theoretically go to Puppy 3.99999999999 if we wanted to or needed to. but by that time this probably would be a different Puppy.

Like 3Puppy showing it's 3.xx roots possibly.

who knows what will happen

dillo2 works, but the new libraries basically kill seamonkey or firefox if i try to use them..

It says "/usr/lib/firefox/run-mozilla.sh: Line 131: Segmentation Fault "$prog" $[1+$@]

and if i try to run the plain binaries. It kills rxvt.

I have no idea why this is doing this, but it's killing the backwards compatibility So those libraries will need to wait.

this is probably going to knock a half-hour from the release schedule.

And it's release might just be 3.02. since the community seems to be focused on Puppy 4.2, while this has a very obscure existance.

and if i release this, it might get more people to focus on this project..

I'll see what i can figure out.

I'll try some slackware binaries.
But for now, if we call this the final 3.02, this is likely to not make the grade. Without running most Puppy 3.xx and Puppy 2.xx applications.

And in this release i'm trying to mainly focus on the tiny size. Than figure out where to go from there.

And from what i know, Puppy 3 carried Slackware 12 binary compatibility, but compatibility with 12.2, might be a challenge.

But the main thing for this release was to stabilize the alpha, and get a cutdown puppy from that, and see where we should go next.

This is partially why i call this Puppy Remnant/Lassie. As i don't know if Chihuahua was the CE name, but Lassie was one for sure. So the release name for this is lassie.

And until more people enter the project, complicated things like trying to bump up slackware compatibility and recompiling drivers would need to wait.

So this Puppy which i officially call Remnant Lassie. but could just be called Lassie, partially follows the initial plan.

And some things like a graphical shutdown system, I could probably build. But i would want to learn some Gnocl first.

first.

Slack12.2 uses a different Glibc but the programs are still interchangeable, well in 1 direction with glsapt, I guess you can use 12.0 software on 12.2 without downgrading but you can't use 12.2 on 12 without upgrading. I read that somewhere. Thats why I figured better to move up to 12.2, because Slackware doesn't update all that often, They'll be using 12.2 for the next year or so.

I made this script of <2kb to make a pupplet as an addon sfs... thought you might include it in a beta release for further testing (as if there aren't enough 3.x puplets already)

Also - let me know if you'd like a 3.X themed web desktop (either hosted or for inclusion)

Glad to see things progressing. One of the problems with Puppy is the wealth of ideas being developed. Your 3.02 was one of the first serious attempts to make Puppy compatable wiht other distros. 4.xx took it into new heights of basically Puppy programs. Now Barry is working on the "Woof" series that will make Puppy compatable with Ubantu (which I don't think is a good idea ) Debian,Slackware,and hopefully inhouse Puppy development. This is one of the problems facing Puppy--to much fragmentation. I have always preferred the three series, but there is so much else to check out. Don't be discouraged, when the smoke settles there is room for all. Have a great day..........Stray

Been a while since I read this thread. Been trying to learn how to create my own style and am finally making some progress. Have always liked the 3.xx series as it is most responsive on my cobbled system. my problem now is simple although my settings are mostly saved, my local time isn,t and on reboot (live) reverts to base. Is there a way to make the setting permanent?

I have been using this lately having updated it with new Glibcs Gcc etc and some other minor updates and use it with my digital camera been having fun with it.

Available at Archive.org where there are many other nice retro Pups to play around with. I encourage others who haven't been to the puppy section at Archive.org to check it out.

Assuming that till puppy3, spinoff were limited that is about 1 new puppy/day for the last 7 years in the 10 year history of puppy!!!
