Puppy 4..2alpha "Deepthought" Bug Reports and Fixes

I have just uploaded the first alpha for Puppy 4.2 Deepthought. Although I am very happy with its current state, it is still an alpha so some diligent testing and bug chasing is in order.
Known issues:
1. I didn't include the mods to JWM to allow users to quickly switch into Icewm, although the alternative window manager is installed along with a couple of nice themes. Use Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and type
2. I'm pretty sure I accidently left Xchat out of the mix. That will be fixed in the next release
3. Zigberts update to Pburn-2.1.1 was just a fraction too late to make the alpha. That too will be added to the next release.
4. I haven't been provided with any fixes for the ongoing printing problems using CUPS, and I haven't been able to resolve it myself in testing.
On the positive side, we have the latest versions of xdg (0.7.6-5), PETget (420), Pmusic (0.5.3), Pfilesearch (1.11), Pfind (4.6), Pmetatagger (2.1), Puppybasic (2.6), Pwidgets (0.4), Pwireless (0.8.3), Roxrightclicks (0.8.1), Xpad (2.14) and some interesting game choices (Seahaven, Xfreecell, Xmahjongg, Flashchess, Xcheckers - Jester may come later, as will the overlooked Xchat). Xarchiver proved a tad buggy in testing so it was left out of the alpha to give it time for further testing and improvement. Browser hasn't yet been updated as development is still ongoing.
I'm pleased to say that, after missing the Christmas deadline through circumstances beyond my control, I have delivered the first alpha release a full week ahead of my own revised projection.

I would say WhoDO is gone to sleep. Its 4am NSW, oz time. So probably another 5hrs to wait, LOL

<---Buggy Thats what alpha's are about, fixing bugs, if you don't include them, Then they don't get fixed, I've used Xarchiver hundreds of times and the only bug I've seen is when you accidently click the right panel it closes, when all you need to do is click the left panel for all functions, It could of been installed along with Xarchive, it was small enough, plus it opened all the extra formats that Xarchive has no clue. Well I'll work on it and see whats up.

Why didn't you use the JWM2IceWm switch? Once again its a Alpha and I'm not a coder, (Wouldn't mind learning )But If you would of left it in, It might of 'BUGGED' others and maybe gotten fixed if something was wrong with it, but if you don't include applications they don't get fixed and plus it removes a learning experience for myself and other to enjoy, when one of the more skilled programmers fix the issue, if there is one.
Oh well, Downloading it not, Thanks WhoDo for all your hard work also.

Update:
Running Xarchiver from a CLI allows the icon bar to be used without a crash UNTIL you open an archive file. Then clicking any icon on the icon bar gives a segmentation fault.

Why didn't you use the JWM2IceWm switch? Once again its a Alpha and I'm not a coder, (Wouldn't mind learning )But If you would of left it in, It might of 'BUGGED' others and maybe gotten fixed if something was wrong with it, but if you don't include applications they don't get fixed and plus it removes a learning experience for myself and other to enjoy, when one of the more skilled programmers fix the issue, if there is one.

Learning to program is never a bad thing. And I know tcl and tk. But sadly i cannot grasp how to use gtk.
But i'm very excited about being able to try 4.2 for the first tine.
I'll do some tests, and possibly bugfixes.

Hi Whodo this is what I've found so far
- you installed the wrong icewm package, The last one I made came with my new theme for 4.2, plus ,the menu is missing the 24x24 icons only 4 are showing out of 16, 12 missing.
-You included 2 messengers clients, XChat and ayttm.
-Galculator is in Utilities when it should in Calculate, plus that pesty Xcalc is in Calculate.
-You left in Glipper and no autostart Parcelite
, even in Icewm.
-No Xpad on either taskbar, or autostart. Really it would be handy if it was autostarted, It takes like no memory at all.
The Puppy linux boot splash screen was really a quick one, lasted aroun 1/10sec man that was quick, looked nice until I blinked, lol
I guess you didn't use and of those 24x24 icons I posted that would of replaced the very old and tired 16x16 icons for the menu and wizards.
Well Its a great start anyways, no errors, and I was able to use my mouse and go online in seconds
Great job all who participated.

when you go to menu/Window there is no 'Exit to Prompt' or 'ShutDown' in icewm

You kept the Gtk2 themes and forgot to replace them with 'ClearLooks" themes

I did say blinky and freememory applet weren't working, but they are, its how I started Icewm, Startx icewm when I should of typed xwin icewm-session
. I'm used to the other way that works also when you have a file in /etc/windowmanager and the text inside says icewm-session

i tried it out, and it has quite a polished look overall.
And i'm very glad that i can see the fixes which i did to the jwm tray in puppy 4.2 including the icon_switcher.
It looks like it even has menu buttons for the other three themes.
but i shall give a bug report.
when i switch jwm themes, it makes the .jwmrc-tray file blank.
hopefully that will be fixable in the near future.
I'll probably get back at my thing.

Ok I installed the last icewm I made up for 4.2 and typed fixmenus
then restarted icewm
and the menu icons were fix minus 1 icon which was there but the wrong colour, Here's an image of what it looks like with the theme I made for 4.2 and the icons in place, remember the theme with the neet looking clock I made and plus the orange glass look and the dark grey background. It really suites the rest of look and feel.

Hey WhoDo I'll fixup up the icewm if you want, Like fix the missing icons and also use the icons from the desktop on the taskbar, like the Home, and maybe make a orange magnifying glass, and I'll see what I can do about the desktop icon on the taskbar also. Give me a few hours and All should be fine.

No problem. I had about 3 or 4 copies of your icewm-mini and all were just called icewm (no other identifiers). Obviously I just picked the wrong one.
Parcellite in icewm? 22kb? I don't see why not. jwm2icewm fix? Absolutely!
Like I agreed earlier - it's an alpha. When I have a chance I'll work my way back through this thread to add the fixes to my Unleashed tree. Then I'll come up with second alpha. Don't forget to have a look at what I said was happening in Xarchiver, too. I'm happy to include it if it works right for refugees.
