UPDATE: Success! Rcrsn51 posted a live link for the working i486 package (foo2zjs-i486.pet)!

---
I installed Puppy 4.2.1. Really love it! Having trouble printing though. I've searched and read through the Puppy forums, especially benefiting from rcrsn51's posts. Thanks!
My printing difficulties persist, but I feel I am close. I've gotten Puppy to print on our home wireless network from an old Dell Inspiron 4100 laptop. Printing also works wirelessly from a Out house Compaq Presario desktop running Ubuntu. So I was surprised that I couldn't make things work on my comparatively newer Dell XPS 400 (P4 3.2, 3Gb RAM, 1.37T in combined drives). On the Ubuntu partition, same Dell, printing works.
I've downloaded these files and installed them in Puppy:
http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz
foo2zjs-0.75-i686.pet
hpijs-3.9.4-dynppds.pet
At CUPS 1.3.10 I installed the printer, HP Laserjet 1000:
Description: HP laserjet 1000
Location: [wife's] laptop [physically connected to printer]
Printer Driver: HP LaserJet 1000 hpijs, 3.9.4
Printer State: processing, accepting jobs, published.
Device URI: smb://MSHome/silvergirl/Printer
Will not print test page. Got this message:
printer "/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed"
I'm not sure what to do at this point. I could go back through and reload the .pet packages. Or rollback to CUPS 1.3.9 from 1.3.10--but I wasn't sure if that's what I need to do based on the "Updated" provisions heading the discussion thread at http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=40665. I went to http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=41772, downloaded that hpijs .pet file.
Thank you much in advance!

SOLVED HP 1000 Laserjet won't print on home wireless network

Well, the HPIJS driver for the Laserjet 1000 definitely doesn't work and I'm surprised that it is included in the HPIJS package at all. HP's own site lists it as "not recommended" and Openprinting.org recommends the foo2zjs driver.
There is a thread here concerning the foo2zjs-0.75-i686.pet that you downloaded, which apparently contains no PPD files.
The driver that does work is the foo2zjs-i486.pet, but I notice that the download link for it is now dead. I have uploaded a copy of it here.

Which version of Puppy and which driver did you use on that machine?I've gotten Puppy to print on our home wireless network from an old Dell Inspiron 4100 laptop.

Success!!!!
I'm about to fall over. The HP 1000 is taking print jobs, wireless, from Puppy.
You are a Puppy printing deity, rcrsn51. Thank you!
Both the Dell laptop and the desktop are able to print using the previously recommended foo2zjs-i486.pet package.
Yaaay!
