My simplistic answer....I'm no expert.

When 2 or more devices use the same route they can either share
or conflict.
If they conflict it can cause audio, or other problems. Older pcs
had isa slots with the sound card in them; most of the other slots
are pci.
There may be a way of changing settings in bios.
Changing the slot position of other plugged in pci cards may help.Changing to a pci style sound card may help.

If sound was working with another linux, there is likely to be a fix
for puppy that more experienced users know.

Some things worth trying;
Boot the cd. At the boot prompt type: puppy acpi=off .
or: puppy pci=biosirq
or: puppy pci=routeirq

whatever the the similar command is.

When the red letters (boot options) come up , you have
5 seconds to stop it from scrolling....push any key.

I don't know what happened new but I've got music cd playing and didn't do yet what you suggested. I do know music is real choppy on MPlayer and just a little choppy on VLC player. This is on the MiPup2. If I go back and install the regular puppy linux 2.12, should it work better since that os is a little lighter at only 94 mb. Maybe it's my system mem is the problem?

I would try 3.01. It uses an earlier kernel, but is still an official
release.

Try those boot prompts I suggested.

Thank you so much for replying. I put the puppy the puppy linux 4.1.2 in on the ram and of course it wouldn't play sound so I took it out and rebooted. I much rather have it because of my low resources. Do you mean puppy linux 3.01? If so I can make another iso no problem. I do like it's layout better than MiPup2. Shall I try that first before I do the other boot prompts?

Ok I put the MiPup2 in and succeded with your first boot prompt. Music plays great while while running in ram. I'll see if it plays in the MiPup2 in the system thats installed. Shall I try that again booting with the linux puppy running in ram and then maybe reinstalling it or should I have to do that again?

Great;

When something works, try it on everything until you
turn blue in the face!!

Try it on the different versions until you decide on the one you
want to use. Then we can add that boot option to the menu list
so it will work whenever you reboot.

I took the MiPup2 cd out of cdrom and rebooted the computer and sound didn't work running MiPup2 from the system. So I did it again with the linux 4.1.2 running in the ram and the sound works. Now can I do a full install with with the linux and what should I do when it goes through, I'm so sorry I'm such a noob at this but sure appreciate your help.

Okay Jodi

I would use gparted and remove mipup partition;
Then make a new ext2 partition in the same place.
After that use the universal installer to install the
new puppy.

You need to tell me which of the boot prompts you
used that finally made the sound work.

I used the first on puppy acpi=off. I was looking at a game that should have sound but not getting any. The music cd is somewhat choppy but can live with that, it more like fading in and out but not bad. Maybe I should try to boot and try one of the other ones that you suggested since no sound in the game xsoldier space game?

Games? Video games? You need a powerful (expensive)computer for
stuff like that.

First you told me the sound from cd was great with the boot
prompt; now you say it's choppy?

Keep playing with the different prompts I mentioned.
I'll check back tomorrow night.

Well I figured out the problem on MiPup2. The Gxine media player is the program that plays choppy, but the VLC media player does great. I can deal with that and also I have sound in the tux typing. So everything looks good and I'll leave well enough alone. Thanks so much for your help!
