Subject description: Unix version of Microsoft silverlight plug-in

I was not sure of the best place to put this thread but it seems to apply to software.

For users of Firefox or IceCat there is a plug-in available that is the Unix version of Microsoft's "Silverlight" called "Moonlight"

Just go to this page with Firefox or IceCat and click the green install button to install the plug-in;

http://www.go-mono.com/moonlight/

I tried it with Seamonkey too, but it did not work.
I have heard it also works with Opera, but I have not tried it.

Tom

silverlight is written in Mono, a library that mimics Microsofts ".net".
try:

Mono might rely on several Gnome libraries, I did not try it myself.

Have any of you using Moonlight to test this new thing?

The Web Client version of WorldWide Telescope offers a subset of the features from the WorldWide Telescope Windows® Client that was released in May 2008. Details on the feature sets for each release are outlined below.

One can look at high definition maps of Mars.

But I don't have moonlight and wonder if it really works. No need to install it if it fails

Moonlight is silverlight in linux and if you do a search you'll find some posts, though I do not understand them.

All the commercial tv stations in the Netherlands stream through Silverlight.

Using puppy 525 and firefox 5.

I had moonlight on different distros and older firefoxes; always rather bad, interrupting, croaking, often crashing/freezing the browser.

Moreover, Dutch media are using different Silverlight versions which I saw no Moonlight solution for so far.

No luck at all with Moonlight in newer firefoxes (3.++, 4, 5).

Found "help" but am not enough a technician to follow up instructions:

Netflix uses DRMed Silverlight, I believe, and there's probably no or little chance of Moonlight supporting that, unless Microsoft contributes to the project. Sad

I wasn't able to use Moonlight either.

After installing it, the TV station popped up a message saying "your version of Silverlight is outdated" or something like that. I checked and yes I had installed the latest Moonlight .. Rolling Eyes

I have working Moonlight 4 Preview edition with Firefox 6 Beta on Puppy Linux 5.2. Also had to Install https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/?src=api to over-ride version check in Firefox 6

I have previously tried to install this with Firefox 4 but could not get it to work but it installed perfectly this time from http://go-mono.com/moonlight/download.aspx

Have not tried it with Firefox 5.

Sliverlight test pages work and I can view Sky News at http://news.sky.com/home/liveplus

Most of the Dutch transmitters if using some Silverlight version, work poorly or not at all in any Moonlight version, also sometimes making browsers crash.

Maybe I'll try again in a year or two.

Please let me know if you get moonlight working in firefox 5.0. I was trying to apply for a job but I can't even access the website because it utilizes silverlight.
