Puppy 4.2 Alpha3 Seamonkey Bugs & Fixes
Ok, guys, it's the last call for inclusions in Alpha4. I'm going out to lunch with my family and when I come back in around 4-5 hours I'll be building and testing Alpha4 for uploading. I won't be adding anything after that until Alpha4 has been uploaded, tried and tested.

Long, looonnnnggg lunch complete with a good old Aussie barbeque, lots of nice cold beer and plenty of frollicking and fun. My neice and her boyfriend are up from Sydney to see my new granddaughter and to take my Mother-in-Law back with them for a brief holiday with my brother-in-law and his wife.Caneri wrote:Long lunch eh...maybe a cool drink on such a hot day...for me it's freezing and Saturday night..cripes
Personally I'm staying well out of the sun and in the aircon as long as possible. A cold beer on the inside won't stop you from cooking on the outside! Crank up the central heating, eric!

I know this is not the place to post a screen shot BUT this my desktop with JWM in 412 with all 420 mods. It speaks for itself how far we have come.
I love icewm too but I'm just thinking about the bloat factor. I know it is a done deal that icewm is in by default now. ( And yes Lobster, that is you in the top right of my screen! )

We clearly have different ideas of restraint, civility and the shared notion of turning the head to expose the other cheek.I'm holding back right now
How would you feel if Zigbert addressed you in this way - whether true or not? Christian? An example?
You make me very sad at times Ttuuxxx . . .
Maybe I need to drink more beer?
I tried iceWM once and did not care for it. I installed it and it changed a lot of "default" settings I had. When I deleted it, I had to manually change a lot of files that it changed. I hated it for that and will never use it again. That's my choice.
@ ttuuxxx, why do you always feel the need to remind us how many hours and how much time you put into your projects. Why do we need to know?
You have done many things to improve puppy and I am sure it is appreciated by many (including myself) but why does it seem like you're making this a competition?
If you make something and put it out there, fine. But if someone does not like it or agree with it, fine also. Don't be so defensive.
My opinion for puppy:
KISS - Keep it Small + Simple. (like my Corgi's)

hey mick
did you know that if you removed say all the extra themes in my icewm and only included the 'Elegance' theme the total package size is 615kb which also includes/replaces in the default puppy
blinky
free memory applet
new shutdown menu plus icons
parcellite
new refresh menus
absvolume
of course icewm
so when you look at what you get for a 615kb pet package, I really don't think there is much bloat in that.
really if we removed what the Icewm package is providing like
JWM
JWM version of free memory applet
JWM version of blinky
JWM version of absvolume
Glipper
Then we would be getting rid of the doubles/ bloat and probably save around 200-300kb
depending how deep you remove.

Lobster & Trapster
first lobster, when I made those comments, thats because I actually had a good nights sleep for once, I got up and logged in and found 2 new pages on this thread, Keep in mind I went to bed happy that finally I managed to make WhoDo and pizzasgood happy and I figured all is well now.
Then i read Zigberts comments and about 1.5 pages later no positive response about IceWm was made. Well lets just say yes I was very upset. I think if you put as much effort into something like I did with that package you would be upset also.
Trapster
I remind people how much effort/time I put into puppy because my wife gets on my case all the time about the hours I put into this project.
Like when comments were placed about the default title bar, well I spent 21.5hrs in one day working on it until it was perfect again, I always thought the default one was great to start with but I aim to please. Wouldn't you be proud about that? plus all the wifes crap that came along with it. Things on here just don't happen in a blink of the eye when you read/download it, It takes time and effort, Both I give by choice. So if all you have to do is read what it actually took, your the lucky one

Well that device ID is not recognised by the standard "rtl8187" kernel module in Puppy 4.1.x, but it is recognised by the proprietary "r8187" module that I contributed two months ago here -straypup wrote:The requested info is as follows

That device ID is not recognised by either the standard or proprietary module. Obviously, that's a problem.alex12 wrote:my dongle, also rtl8187b, returnsCode: Select all

So I did some Googling, and found a list of additional RTL8187B devices which need to be recognised -

I have now updated the proprietary r8187 wifi driver to recognise these additional device ID's.

I think I'll go back to my barbeque lunch!
No offense intended to anyone debating the relative merits of JWM and Icewm BUT this is supposed to be an Alpha3 bugs & fixes thread.
@ttuuxxx - Chill, Jeff, ok? I already responded to Sigmund's post way back when. He wasn't shooting at you, just trying to balance the ledger for the JWM devotees; that's all. Hey I now LIKE the bubbly title bar - it grows on you after a while. It's just probably a little too "different" for a default look is all. Like fine wine and strong cheese, some of your designs are an acquired taste.
@trapster - It may be time to try Icewm again - never is an awful long time. I had the same bad experience as you with an early Icewm. It wasn't the wm's fault, just the way it was packaged to produce the preferred effect. ttuuxxx's latest minimal version doesn't change any defaults and is easily removed.
Better still, give it a whirl in Alpha4 - especially that Ctrl+Alt+Space feature to get a command line in the task bar, and Ctrl+Alt+Del to get shutdown/reboot options etc. I'm still learning about this amazing little WM. JWM2.0 also raised its standards, and if it was being maintained as rigorously as it deserves, would be right up there too for functionality. Just my $AUD0.02c worth.
@Lobster - don't know what happened to the email, Ed, but I didn't get it. I haven't yet included the modified initrd.gz in Puppy-4.2 because I wanted to get all the packages stable first. If someone who knows would like to PM me with instructions to modify the initrd directly, I'll make the changes in my Unleashed tree for this release. Better be quick though. I'm getting an itchy trigger finger!
@Zigbert - I think we understand each other fairly well. Believe me when I say that you are not the cause of the brouhaha. You can't blame a bright spark for every inferno (very topical given the current situation down here - 35 dead and still counting). Sometimes bad stuff just happens.
Guys, I'm not GOD, a God, God-like or even a demi-god like Barry. All the same I now know just what it feels like to watch my "children" fighting among themselves when they could achieve so much more by cooperating (notice I didn't say "agreeing"). Please, can we just concentrate on making Puppy-4.2 "DeepThought" the best darn standard Puppy release ever? It goes without saying that I love you all regardless of who you are and how you behave but sometimes its really hard, you know?

Mmmmm cheese.... I got a gift card for Christmas that I haven't gotten around to using yet. Maybe tomorrow I'll see if I can find a store within walking distance and get me some queso. We're having really nice weather lately, and I could use a good walk.
Tell your wife sorry for me. Yeah, I didn't like the old one much. But not 21.5 hours worth! The new one does look better though.Like when comments were placed about the default title bar, well I spent 21.5hrs in one day working on it until it was perfect again

That is true, it was an earlier package that ttuuxxx did not make but it did leave a bad taste.
