XFE File manager 1.9.2 puppy 4.0+ foxlibs
To make Xfe the Puppy default file explorer...
Xfe will then automatically run and display the contents of a partition listed on the desktop, when you click to mount.
See post number 111 on page #5 of my Puppy Linux thread at the PC-Guide forums.
Lots of Puppy Linux goodies listed in that thread.
Or is post #105 better?
Forgotten which worked best.

i edited the file /usr/local/bin/drive_all, but for the mounted icons in desktop is the same....rox still work.
I check in the file drive_all the command to change... in terminal and it works; so i think that the comands in edited file are right. but still rox works..
I check in the file drive_all the command to change...
Code: Select all
exec xfe -x /mnt/sdbx
1. "i edited the file /usr/local/bin/drive_all, but for the mounted icons in desktop is the same....rox still work"
Hmmm, I'm no Puppy expert.
However, I tried following the above instructions by editing /usr/local/bin/drive_all so as to change all examples [2] of pcmanfm to xfe, and it worked.
Now when I click on any partition on the desktop, Xfe opens and displays the contents of that partition.
2. How about trying the alternative method given above?
i.e. Post #111.

You need to refresh the icons. Or just replace the drive icon scripts (which are all the same.) "/root/.pup_event/drive_<DRIVE>/AppRun" with "/usr/local/bin/drive_all".

Changed to this version of Xfe in Dpup-009, because the previous Xfe [Xfe-1.19.2.pet] wouldn't run due to missing the dependency = libFOX-1.6.so.0
But it has a peculiar behaviour as follows:
The title bar is ALWAYS off the top of the screen at the beginning of each new time I run it.
Makes no difference if I rearrange it in a nice location.
Any way to fix this?

Probably in the same category as the question above, but...
is it possible to set the default window size in XFE? I've been though all the gui preferences and it doesn't seem to include anything for it. It's just kind of annoying having it open full screen all the time.
Other than that, this thing kicks butt compared to ROX.

See this bug when using Xfe in Lupu-520.
I'm wondering if I need to edit /root/.config/xfe/xferc
See...
"need to edit /root/.config/xfe/xferc to have it automatically open with the correct programs (default* abiword, gnumeric etc... vs. openoffice progs) ... if someone does this please post the gzipped /root/.config/xfe/xferc and I will repackage it"

building from source
Im trying to compile xfe-1.34 but unseccessful. Compiling libFOX-1.6.49 with ./configure --build=i486-t2-linux-gnu --with-opengl=no --enable-static=yes --enable-shared=no --enable-release and make gave me libFOX-1.6.a and libFOX-1.6.l in /usr/local/lib. Running xfe's ./configure i got an error "libFOX-1.6 not found". Do i have to include --prefix=/usr in ./configure of xfe, or in libFOX or both? Im really new to this and though im already using technosaurus' xfe static build, i want to make this work for learning. thanks.

When you run "make install" after building libfox, the *.a file should be copied into /usr/lib/ and a bunch of .h file into /usr/include. If not, check that you passed --prefix=/usr to ./configure.

Xfe forgotten in the newest Puppy Versions
Rox is the better File Manager ever created, in my opinion. However i recognize that two panels FM is useful. Roland Baudin will no longer create new versions, won't he.kenbanistu wrote:Thanks for this. Much better than Rox.
I noticed that some of the file associations were pointing to programs I don't have, like Firefox for opening html files. I change them as I find them..
You need to use an applications several days to get an idea. I am pleased, i will feed back.
I am running and old laptop with Puppy 420. Some functions are not working as opening a spreadsheet with gnumeric. Im searching why. XFE has not done better than Rox
