openssh need to uninstall 4.7 and install 5.1-need help

#1 Post by yvonne »

NOTE: I can't believe I missed posting this IN the thread itself. Sorry sorry sorry!

EDIT: I only have problems with 4.2rc1 installs fine with 4.1.2
---------------------
4.7 openssh on puppy 4.2rc1 seems to be stopping 5.1 from installing.

Hi congrat everyone... this is fantastic.
I've got 4.2rc1 running nicely on flash stick rebooted and everything.

I noticed in one of the 2 main 4.2 beta threads that there was openssh 5.1 client and server along with a lot of other packages for download.
I've tried both the ones in that thread and the ones that seem to be available through 'install' on the desktop.

It seems that there is already install an openssh 4.7 client on 4.2rc1. right? do I need to uninstall it, or am I totally wrong?

I can't find out how to uninstall it. Only 5.1 sshd and ssh show up in the package installer.

openssh 5.1 doesn't download. Tries though fails.
Also, in the package text where it says 4.7 is 'on' it says it build on ssl or something like that.

Anyways... just need your help to get 5.1 sshd installed.
gotta be easy and that's why I've been totally unable to...right. :-)

Love to have any tips on why 4.7 doesn't show up for uninstall or whatever errors I'm making. thank you!!!!!!!!!!

Here try this and tell me if it works, If it does I'll added it to the main 4.2, The reason why I ask is because I have some kde stuff installed and hope that it didn't add any needed extra libs

ttuuxxx !!! FANTASTIC!! will do this weekend... now that I'm back from... outer space ....hehehe

um, I didn't get what you said about the KDE stuff. kinda though. I'll read and think later though will for sure do the try out.....REALLY great!!

ok.. so I would LOVE to see this working in 4.2... ir SO great.... So, like I said I didn't quite get the KDE comment you wrote. I'm stubblingly thinking... there's no kde libs in 4.2 is there... though realizing I'm not getting it yet.

ok.... HURRAY!!

UPDATE: duh... ok, I get the kde comment now. you're thinking there's a least a small possibility that some kde stuff got into the ssh .pet.

UPDATE COMMENT: search other posts and found the sshd conf and stuff in usr/etc ..... I thought it would be in /etc.

There's NOT a .ssh folder in /root though.... I'm just not puppyed-up I think....

QUESTION: what's significant about you saying... "type ./ssh" ???
I'll keep studying.
------------

hi ttuuxxx

- installed 4.2rc4 to flash stick - and did reboot after creating 32meg save file.

- I've rebooted a couple of times and reinstalled your .pet. once also... and I did the: open a terminal and type:
./ssh
It said file not found.... like this:
# cd /root
# ./ssh
bash: ./ssh: No such file or directory
#

and like this:
# cd /etc
# ./ssh
bash: ./ssh: No such file or directory
#

- I'm kinda not as familiar with puppy's way and ssh.

The pet has sshd and the client... right?

- Just now I did this:

# ssh localhost
ssh: connect to host localhost port 22: Connection refused
#

So I guess it's installed....??

I'll have to look around for some tips or maybe you've got time to tell me WHERE is the .ssh folder [not in /root even with hidden files showing. Same with /etc/ssh it's not there.

REALLY really glad it's working with 4.2rc4 HUGE BIG thank you!

i figure it's me being puppy-dumb here... hehehe

appreciate the reply as you are incredibly busy right now. And, I rambled on in the post. So:

QUICK ONE:

1) is there any relevance to you saying.... 'open terminal and type ./ssh'
which I did ... that seems unsuccessful at doing anything that might be needed. ???

2) Is the pet ONLY the server? or does it do the client as well? I assume the pet installs everything needed ... puppy comes with some ssh client stuff ... um, should i install the 5.1 client ??? need 5.2?? I wish there was a puppy-centric tutorial or something.

3) Is there anything different as far as setting up permissions, generating inital keys, user etc. in your pet.

I know it's a busy busy time with 4.2 so cool, whatever. :--)

thanks! 4.2 is amazingly amazing.

just really appreciative of what it takes to reply to people when you're doing stuff ... saying big thanks!!

So: could really use knowing that: (then I should be able to speed along)

1) your package above is just the server? which is fine and what i need.

if so:

2) What client do you say will work with your 5.2x ? 5.1 client from before?

go go puppy!!!!!!!!!

well since you have the full version installed maybe just use the manual to configure what you need?
