ttuuxxx wrote:Hey WhoDo you know one aspect I don't like about the shutdown, Is that when you go to shutdown, and the window manager exits, and you get a prompt screen about saving the files or not, It also would be nice to have a exit to prompt or a return to the current window manager, You should be able to have a choice. Kind of like Flash said but different, If I knew where that dialog is and the name of it, I could alter it.
Maybe this is the clue, ttuuxxx?

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh

/etc/rc.d/rc.shutdown

exec /bin/busybox poweroff
That's a script called poweroff in /sbin and it looks from that as though /etc/rc.d/rc.shutdown is the script you might be looking for.

Hope that helps

I'm also taking suggestions on the desktop icons visible at boot, and where they are as well as what they're called.
The original set (colour) and their positions work well.
With Stardust and Deep Thought, quick identifying does not as easily
allow for choice by colour. Though of course they are very stylish as is the black-grey icon set
I noticed the original set were gone from rc2

Of course you did! Would it surprise you to know that Deep Thought (the icon set, nothing else) and JQ8FlatLite will also be gone from RC3? :P

I'm replacing Deep Thought with l'Orange for RC3. It causes fewer problems for the desktop icon switcher. The others will all be in the repository for a quick install, but they need too much fiddly work to make them compliant with the icon switcher and I don't have the time left for that. Find me about 350kb of space and you can have "Original" back too, ok?

Does that mean I can drop the existing enchant package? That's 116kb so the net increase would only be 54kb if that's possible.
Yes thats what it means:)

Yep. Just repeated the problem in Puppy-4.12! :( Abiword hasn't changed in 4.2 so the new compile might just be what we need!

Blinky again. Installed RC2 on another machine and it was there no problem.

Changed theme and it vanished. Checked jwm-tray and could see it was 'bold' as if altered. Sure enough, blinky delayed missing from blinky line.

Just thought I'd let you know what happened.

Rob
whodo,

Just reminding you of this..maybe you put the "theme-switcher" fix..but not along with blinkydelayed line in .jwmrc-tray? ... I am not using rc2 ...you know..cannot get my wireless to work correctly (even with rc1 pup_save)...I'll wait for rc3 instead..

Hi - some observations.

1)Xvesa - seems to be ok in all the usual basic operations
that I would normally use. (file management, browsing, etc)
In fact used it a lot when running HOT (pfix=ram)(no pup_save)
It's much quicker to set up than Xorg.

2)Seamonkey - in Xvesa and possibly also Xorg (not tested yet)
will not download to a location (ie /mnt/home/Dld/) it insists
on downloading to pup_save.2fs - have not noticed this before.

I normally download using Opera (usually more reliable IMO)
but have often used Seamonkey in other Puppy's with no prob's.
Naturally have set-up "Edit/preferences/download" in seamonkey
prior to downloading.

3)Pup_save file size - have noticed that even though I clear
cache, history, cookies etc, frequently - the pup_save file
size keeps getting progressively smaller.
It only seems to happen with seamonkey - not when Opera.sfs
or Opera.pet are in use.
This seems to happen in all Puppy's and Puplets with all flavours
of seamonkey. (ie 1.1.11 - 1.1.14 - ttuuxxxMonkey in 4.2rc2)

4)WhiteOut's - could they cause above file size space usage growth ?

As always - many, many thanks to all for everything you do
to make a better Puppy.

Best regards - Ray

hey WhoDo this is one for your personal notes about abiword, out of the box Barry's included these extra plugins
libAbiAikSaurus.so
libAbiAikSaurus.so.0
libAbiGrammar.so
libAbiPalmDoc.so
libAbiScriptHappy.so
Thats what I get when I compared the plugins you showed me and what puppy can provide without any extra packages,
Plus this version will have openXML, which I didn't see on your list and a couple extra, too bad we did have more space I compiled the microsoft works but didn't install it, I just wanted see the size of the library, it was 4400kb lib then I stripped it and it ended up around 450kb,lol thats not bad to support all all versions of microsoft works. Anyways it won't be a part of the package, same with WordPerfect is another set which could of been handy, oh well off to find these missing libs and trying to figure out that image thing, must be a missing plugin.

That image crash isn't there in 2.6.6, but there are a couple of other "glitches".
  • In either version the spellcheck doesn't work, despite the presence of an appropriate dictionary (at 2.1Mb approx).
  • Clipart is there but can't be accessed from the clipart manager. You can get to it manually through Rox but that's not the point.
  • Pressing the "Add plugin" button with no plug-ins in window crashes whole program
Otherwise the newer version performs better than the old. Certainly the image > right click crash is gone from this compile.

Cheers

I can't repeat Rob's problem. blinkydelayed line (with -bg parameter) is definitely in .jwmrc-tray in RC2. Blinky is sometimes a bit slow to reappear, but always does even after a change of theme (JWM or Gtk) and a change of desktop configuration.

I'm pretty sure that the wireless problems are solved in RC3, so your Puppy experience should be a whole lot better, trio.

Is this a clean install or are you trying to update with an existing pup_save.2fs file? I have noticed that aufs doesn't like to overwrite a file if it is the same name, regardless of content. For that reason, in all later builds from Unleashed, I've had to delete the entire rootfs-complete directory before running createpuppy, just to be sure there were no "leftovers". Maybe you got a good leftover? :?

Its probably crashing when you click plugins because it doesn't have any plugins yet  also aiksaurus in puppy by default, if so I made the package a bit smaller, but found out something about it:)
its a working gtk English language thesaurus, thats installed in puppy and we don't have a menu .desktop for??
you can run it by clicking /usr/bin/gaiksaurus
or open a prompt and type
gaiksaurus
When I package it up, I'll add .desktop file so it can be ran from the menu, like it should be. How strange to overlook something like that. The gtk bin file I have stripped to 7bk extracted so no since and deleting the bin. I removed the commandline ones.

It is an update - that could well be the problem. 8)

The other day the forum was unavailable for several hours.
Because of that and as we move into rc3
and to allow real time chat I have set up a Deep Thought Chat room

WhoDo spell checking works in my version you just have to enable it :)
/Edit/Preferences/Spell Checking and tick 'check spelling as you type'
then try it, works fine :)

BTDT, ttuuxxx. No joy. Even downloading a new dictionary and installing makes no difference. Appropriate preferences are selected but spell check icon on toolbar remains inoperative and spell as you go doesn't. All of my tests are on a brand new RC version with no pup_save file to be sure there are no cross-contaminations. I even went back and rebuilt Abiword with the old spell checker added. Nada.

Its working fine on my system, did you install the version I compiled and added the other addon package?
I can give you a screenshot

If you don't rush to rc3 I'll have it working out of the box :) Like below

Abiword

#230 Post by Minnesota »

Booted rc2, from the CD, changed preferences for "check spelling as you type..."

Works....

Personally should be the default, my opinion, as a notorious bad speller.

:)))
