You do not say how you tried to install Blender.
Not sure what you actually got.

This worked for me.

Bionicpup64 8.0 frugal install using save folder.
Quickpet>Info>Bionicpup updates used to install all updates.

I went to the Blender web site.
https://www.blender.org
Click download blender.
On the download web page click on the drop down selection. and choose Linux 64bit.
That will go to a web page where a download window will pop up with the blender-2.80-linux-glibc217-x86_64.tar.bz2 to download.
After you download blender-2.80-linux-glibc217-x86_64.tar.bz2.
In Rox File Manager navigate to its location.
Right click on blender-2.80-linux-glibc217-x86_64.tar.bz2 file.
From right click menu select UExtract.
In UExtract select OK button.
UExtract will unpack the contents into a directory named blender-2.80-linux-glibc217-x86_64.tar.bz2.extracted.

To run Blender.
Open the directory blender-2.80-linux-glibc217-x86_64.tar.bz2.extracted.
Click on the directory blender-2.80-linux-glibc217-x86_64 to open it.
Click on the file blender.

Now to make a little better install.
Take the directory blender-2.80-linux-glibc217-x86_64.
Copy it into /opt
Open that directory in /opt to see the contents.
Drag and drop the file blender onto the desktop.
Blender is now installed in /opt.
Can click on the desktop blender icon to run it.

To give the desktop blender icon an actual blender icon.
Right click on it.
Select the file blender>Set icon
With that window open.
In Rox navigate to /opt/blender-2.80-linux-glibc217-x86_64
In it is a blender icon. (blender.svg)
Drag and drop it into the set icon window.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

for management of missing resources you should install blender from ppm. Please tell us how did you installed blender in first place? Assuming you said from the repo did you installed from git repo or ppm ? PPM databases should be updated before installing.

@ haywirepc:-

You could also try the Blender AppImage, from here:-

https://www.appimagehub.com/p/1169218/

Click on the 'Files' tab (second from left) to find the download.

This is Blender 2.78, but unless you specifically need the very latest, all-singing, all-dancing version as mentioned by bigpup above, this will do everything you need it to.

I can't guarantee it'll work with Bionicpup, but it runs without any fuss under Xenialpup64 7.5. Simply download, make the AppImage 'binary' executable (rt-clk->Properties; tick all 3 exec boxes; Refresh; OK).....and click to fire it up. The whole thing runs from a dedicated folder in /tmp for the duration.

Easy way of doing things.

Mike.

blender from the PPM installs fine for me.

bionicpup64 updates the PPM databases automatically 90 seconds after booting.
what i suspect might have happened is that you may have tried installing blender whilst this background process is happening, and this can sometimes cause a problem.

try uninstalling just blender and then reinstalling it (no need to uninstall all the other deps) and hopefully it will pick up the missing dependencies.
