ttuuxxx...do you still have that gtk version around...the gtk 2.12.1 patch fixes the crash but I ended up with the other pet that is floating around which doesn't do half the formats including (gulp) xvid?

I promise not to show the home movies...... Very Happy

http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/puppylinux/pet_packages-4/gtk+-2.12.1-bug-fixed.pet

or the gtk version of this program is located

The gtk version....cheers.... Good idea to have the bug fixed gtk listed together with it.
Saves a few MB if QT is not needed for anything else.

Ok feeding back.

Your package is working 100% with the fixed gtk 2.12 Smile
More formats than you can shake a stick at.
Its a big binary...is that because ffmpeg/avcodec is compiled into it?

Anyway cheers for popping it back up on here

regards

ttuuxxx; Could you take the best working and most complete version you have and make an SFS file of it?
It`d go a long way to making it easy to use and not filling up the Save file.

In fact SFS file versions of any even semi large packages is a good idea.
The less in the Save file the better, no space problems and you don`t loose it with a corrupt Save file.

P.S. This link is dead ( I don`t know if it`s temporary or not...).

There seems to be no software on puppylinux.ca...not sure why but I did used to use it as a handy source...not sure if mirrored on ibiblio.

Its not that big Very Happy ...but I remaster puppy with wine in it cause to me its relatively small....stuff like kde and openoffice warrent the sfs exclusion zone.

I also have a big stash of applications running from outside of the pup_save

mikeb; True, there is a point when an app. is big enough that the
overhead of the union is something that should be considered.
Also the big apps. have a tendency to be harder to get working.
This goes for regular SFS files and especially "non-union" SFS files.

Q; Could you post a list of the "big stash of applications" that run outside the Save?
jrb and I are interested in apps. setup to run non-unioned.
Like the Skype SFS file I made works unioned or non-unioned.
I want to make a collection of apps. in non-union SFS files, and then
combine the common apps. into larger SFS files, like this:
Utility apps., Office apps., Media apps., Game apps., Internet apps., etc...
Not to have all of them in the SFS file, just a good one of each for the set.

mikeb; Looks like all of those should be made into SFS files.
You say that they all run not in the Save file, you mean from a single dir.?
Like I made the Skype SFS file from a Skype dir. with a working copy in it.

If each apps. in a dir., it`s easy to make SFS files from each of the items.
An "AppName.desktop" file is needed for each menu item for each app.
And a list of read-write config. files that need to be copied for each app.
If you need help or don`t want to do it, let me know and I`ll get help.

Well this lot are on an ext2 partition which happens to be the dev_save one.
Some apps are self contained with maybe a launch script to cd or sometimes an added library path. Others have parts symlinked into puppy.
They are in a folder called apps so really its like program files in windows. Total size is around ~1.6GB which would be one big puppy but that does include 2 OO versions. Kde desktop and Office are as sfs files elsewhere....a kit of parts....the puppy core is around 80MB with wine, firefox and other basic apps...ie if run pfix=ram there is still a basic useable system there.

I read about your dynamic linking in idea so it appears that the sfs is within the union....good idea.

As for turning these into sfs files there would the version problem...up to now I use an older version of mksquashfs so any puppy can use them but this would be of no use to the latest releases.

regards

mike

mikeb; Yep, I suggested the SFS file names have "version ranges" in them.
In a dir. named for each version range (compatible SFS to Puppy versions).
The version of Squash isn`t so important, the new format is all that really matters.

I`m mainly thinking of Dpup, have you tried it? I really liked it for functionality.
It`s fairly complete except for Puppy`s legacy problems, and it needs an installer.
Finally a Puppy that`s ment to use the enormous Debian package repositories.

Do you know how to make SFS files? ( It`s easy of course ) Let me know...
The SDLxxx.pet link is still down, can you make an SFS of avidemux-qt version?
Please include all the packages: SDL, jack, QT4, and the avidemux-qt version.
Make it in a dir. so it`ll work non-unioned (hopefully) and it`ll be complete.

I`m thinking the SFS files you have are being unioned when you use them.
OO and KDE probably won`t work non-unioned without a great deal of effort.
But everything that`s in dirs. should be completely non-union useable.

Actually, it looks like the file is just missing from the directory -- though other files are there. You can see them if you just go to pl.ca and navigate to them through the front door.

There's a

http://www.puppylinux.ca/tpp/ttuuxxx/programs/SDL-Programs/SDL_mixer-1.2.8-i386-mod-smpeg.pet but I don't know if it's a replacement.

Ttuuxxx may have accidentally removed the original. If you PM him I'm sure he'll fix it, since he links to it here.

Hi vtpup,sunburnt,

The server that held most of the files has been down for over a month now and so far no reply from the hosting company. There are 28,000 files on that drive and many are not on the current working server at .ca and .asia.

They are either out of business or in jail I fear, but I'm still trying to sort this out. Hopefully ttuuxxx will have the file backed up...Eric
