First my apologies for posting about this in other forums, i only just found this audio section....(DDDUUUUUHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!)
The initial problem was that 1:- alsa wouldnt remember its settings on boot.... 2:- the usb device is detected, but when configured with alsconf, there is no sound playback(in usb headphones) with the test or any music player.....yet sound was coming out of the onboard soundcard,...albeit totally distorted, whatever i played sounded like celine dion underwater with a vocoder.......absolutly horrific.
O.k Good news for myself....upon discovering a Module Blacklister in the Setup menu, i blaklisted the onboard driver snd_intel8x0, rebooted.........................and my good god sound is being piped to my ears through the usb headphones
lets hope it stays that way..................Slippycurb
