Although i must confess to not been iconless all of the time - i have my wallpaper changer apply new wallpapers to two different puppy pin files, one with icons and one without, that way depending on what i'm doing i can hot switch between the two seamlessly with a key binding / menu entry. Here is my 'messy' desktop
