Hi

Just trying out 4.2retro on a Thinkpad T21 with a Buffalo Air Station Turbo G (Model: WLI-CB-G54HP)
and i notice that there is a very limited number of modules listed (7) in the Network Wizard (see image below)
although i was able to modprobe those that i needed to enable me to send this.

Just thought you needed to know.

Congratulations to all involved.

It's a distro to be super proud of.

I've just added the start up eye candy of the graphical grub, it's now complete for me.

ttuuxxx,
excellent job on SeaMonkey, best yet.

Well done everyone.

No, it's the same kernel. No modifications at all at the kernel level.

Hi trio. This is important enough to be posted in the Puppy 4.2 Patches and Updates thread in the Bugs forum. It's not a bug; just a small oversight on my part and your workaround will resolve it quickly, so please post it there as well. Thanks. 8)

trio wrote:Not to blame anyone but when decided to use icewm's blinky and freememapplet 2 things happen:
1. blinky will not follow theme for background
2. the freememapplet still shows only part of what it supposed to show

so I made up a fix for any jwm users who wants it.
Also a useful update, trio. Please post in the Puppy 4.2 Patches & Updates thread in the Bugs forum. Thanks, mate.

I'm downloading it right now.
There was some real Serendipity in the choices, Barry. You'll notice that the colours of the background are a perfect foil for the icons and theme, the unmounted Puppy event drive icons look like they're under the water in the foreground and Zigbert's top level menu icons look like they were drawn in the sand with a stick! :P

I picked the default image because to me it said everything most people usually think of when they think of Australia - sun, sand and sea - without being obvious like using the Opera House or Uluru. I'm glad you like it! 8)

No, not yet. I will be uploading a devx_420.sfs, a new Unleashed_core-420 and some updated pets for the pet-packages-4 directory. Patience please.

Those shots are from Puppy 4.1 so they are considerably out of date but changing them is kinda out of our control, Jeff. :? Let's hope the Australian editor of Distrowatch Weekly picks that up and Reviews 4.2 as well. At least they spelled my name right! Two L's in Willson - yeehah!!!

:D Looks very good and FAST.

Thanks WhoDo for the corrections to welcome screen.
Printer works, normal CPU.
Spell check works as well as insert symbol insert.

Menus more readable. Thanks... lots of hidden stuff I am sure has been corrected as well.

THIS LOOKS GOOD!!!

I join the crowd of clapping hands  . Congratulations to ALL for the hard work!!!!

it's a pity that localized menus are not included( see localising scripts section)
puppy really needs at least basic localization.
everything i've tested runs fine!

Memory & Processor Usage

#50 Post by floborg »

So, I took screenshots to illustrate any differences between this and Puppy 4.1.2 w.r.t. memory and CPU usage.

All I did was boot up, select Xorg with the same resolution, wait for the getting started message to go away, connect to the network, start top from the command line, and take a screenshot.

Afterwards, I installed LXTask and took another screenshot in each.

PS: In the Puppy 4.2 shot, you can see that the lower desktop icons are bunched together. Didn't happen in 4.1.2. My resolution was 800x600.
