Turbopup Xtreme v1.0 - The fastest dog on Earth Subject description: Happy New Year ! |
|
Turbopup Xtreme is a brand new Puppy Linux derivative optimized for speed and efficiency.
TURBO |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| MAX
Features
-----------------
- Zero CPU overhead and extremely low memory footprint (uses ~10 MB of RAM!)
- A fully-featured, streamlined and simplified desktop environment.
- Fat, bloat and junk-free
- Only the most essential system processes running by default
- Loaded with even more apps and stuff without increasing the ISO size (still under 100 MiB)
- Up to date software packages
- Tons of bugfixes, patches and improvements
- More user friendly for users coming from the 'Proprietary OS': tweaked file manager, double-click operation, PrintScreen takes snapshots, upgraded WM with rounded corners and the ability to resize windows from the top
- Distro with a relatively modern kernel that works great on ancient (and new) hardware
Your old clunkers will love this:
NOTE: The screenshot is from a previous (beta) build.
The final version (1.0) of Turbopup Xtreme is a lot lighter - it uses about 10MB of RAM* with the full X.org server running
* Memory usage may vary depending on the type of motherboard used. On PCs with premium motherboards (that feature lots of integrated devices on it) the memory usage will always be higher (up to 20 MiB).

You should use a name, that makes clear, that it is not an official Puppy.
Like "Turbopup"

Hi Synth, thanks for this, will give it a try.
Will you be doing a SMP Kernel? or do you know if there is an easy way to make one that will work with this puppy?
Cheers

I made an xdelta patch, It's only 2.8 MB. If you already have the standard puppy-420 the patch will turn it into turbopup.
Is there any interest?
I can't attach it here, as the forum only allows attachments up to 1 MB. The next best place for it would be next to turbopup. Mark, if anyone shows interest, should I upload to puppyisos.org or dotpup.de as per your message above? Or do you have another suggestion? I could also supply the xdelta script for linux & .exe file for win for those new to this, with brief instructions for both win & lin.

yes, please upload, and then send me a PM.
I don't check the new files, when I am not informed about new uploads.

Thanks Mark. However, as alpha2 is out already there's no use me supplying the xdelta patch for alpha1.
Synth, instead of me downloading the full alpha2 iso and making the patch, why don't you do it and make it available to all? It's very small as I said above, and only takes a minute.
Actually two patches would be best: one from standard p420 straight to alpha2, and another from alpha1 to alpha2, for those who have only downloaded turbopup alpha1, but not the standard p420.
Do you know how to go about it or should I supply the scripts/instructions? It.s only abt 180k and I could attach it here.

On second thought, here is the lot anyway. Try it & see for yourself how easy it is.

Cant wait to get my hands on the Alpha2 of TurboPup sounds like Synth has done more great work. As yet I cannot find a download.
I'll cast my vote for a standard 4.2 to TurboPup delta. After synth linking from a posting about another slim down attempt from Ttuuxxx (http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=40486) to this thread it would be interesting to try and combine the 2 and that would be made easier by overlaying a delta of TurboPup over Puppies to create TurboPuppies
On the other hand without knowledge of the details of Synth and Ttuxxx's efforts maybe it is felt that combining them might not give any gain?

Everything in the puppyisos.org download folder indicates that it is still the alpha 1 version.
