What is a 'stripped down' woof package?

Hi there,
I have a question about woof:
What does it mean when it says it takes packages of other distros and then strips them down? What is stripped down there?
I asked because I am looking for a full Vim package and if I could use the one from Ubuntu that would be great. I just don't understand what would be stripped down then.
