Multi Pup DVD ISO

#1 Post by puppyluvr »

:D Hello,
If anyone is interested, I have made an EditPup DVD ISO of 3 great Puppies for Editing..

1 Puppy Artists Workshop......Photo Editing
2 Pupitup ....Audio Editing
3 Mediapup....Video Editing...

All in 1 ISO, with a Grub MultiBoot Setup...
Less than 1 gigabyte!!!!
If anyone is interested, let me know...I`ll share... :D

Now that I have MultiBoot working, I may make a few of these..
One for Eye-Candy Pups
One for different Window manager Pups
One for all my Pups..LOL
The possibility`s are endless... :D

@EDIT...This is so cool.. :D ...I could put like 40 Puppies on one DVD!!!!
Why didnt I find this before... .....OMG......I`m so stoked!!!!....
Why isnt anyone doing this...Its like, HELLO, what a way to show off Puppy.
Sorry, I`m a bit enthused at the moment............
I mean, I`ve seen a few, with like 109ce / memtest / ect...
I think there was one with Grafpup and one other...
My favorite, say 25, Puppies, on one bootable DVD....
WOW............

Way to go puppyluvr !
Glad to see pupitup becoming a part of something bigger.
If I guessed it well the boot manager gives you the choice to run any one of these 3 at a time ?
May I suggest you also make the other 2 puplets netbook friendly by adding the madwifi-hal-0.pet and sound support with aspireone-snd-hda-intel-patched-k2.pet + uvcvideo_luvcview.pet for webcam. (that is if they use 2.6.25.16 kernel, newer kernels have wifi & sound working).
This way it would be a killer tripuplet DVD for all those lucky ultra-portable owners desperate to shed both Linpus lite & winblow$.
Don't poop it down... Pup it Up !

You're crazy. Image

And that's the kind of people that get things done!! :D

I think the usefulness comes in being able to give ONE disk to someone to show off Puppy. Not sure how many ppl would actually download--??

If you do this, i'd suggest no more than 700MB total so it all fits on a CD -- that makes it nearly universal, as almost everyone has a CD drive but not all have DVD (Puppy was built for older machines) --plus it makes for an easier download.

That's just what I am looking for.

#4 Post by puppyiso »

puppyluvr,

That's just what I am looking for. Audio, Video and photo editing all in one.

Right now I am multibooting for XP, Puppy with many apps and the puppy with WINE and Wings 3D you made.

With your new "triplex", I can try another interesting "adventure" XP and 3 Puppies...

I have seen a similiar announcement in MISC section at;

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=41306

I tried download it for 2 day and a few more hours but I had to give up after seeing dead for a day and a few more hours. It is a torrent download.

Your combo is more useful as "Multimedia"Puppy. It has one solid idea.

Now I can see Puppy is not just an alternative for office workers. It is a pure fun for multimedia hobbist. If you add a little more professional apps seen in ArtistX and / or Musix, Multimedia pros will love it since ArtistX and Musix are much hevier than Puppy.

Whatever you do, please don't put that as a torrent. The ISP Qingdaomedia.com is NOT as good as China telecomm(Zhongguowangtong). My wife and I decided not to use the service once the contract is over. The only reason they still exist is that they provide all kinds of pirated movies, programs and whatever poeple like. It is illegal. We don't have time to see the movies and no thank \s to Chinese XPs. (I am not Chinese) Anyway, that's not my business.

All of the puppies you mentioned(I mean audio, vide, photo) are already in puppylinux.ca so a combo is entitled to be listed there. I hope Eric thinks the same.

I am very interested in the combo CD. Excellent work, puppyluvr!

Yes I would love to try the multimedia pup :)
I could put like 40 Puppies on one DVD!!!!
Sounds good to me. :)
In fact talking of Kennel (Puppy 5)
Barry says
We could offer 4 or 5 puppies concurrently as the latest official releases, but we would have to present them in such a way that new users aren't confused.

However as well as individual releases we can offer a CD and even DVD of menu controlled variations . . .

Jay can you please tell us a little of the process you used?

I have a suggestion for you

#6 Post by puppyiso »

After reading Subito Piano's reply, I came up with an idea.

Smart folks in this forum are thinking about PPC puppy, T2 Puppy, 64bit Puppy even PSP puppy. (I know there are Playstation distros already)

Besides those, Slaxer_puppy, Dexy_Pup, UPup all trying to use other distros.

Seeing these trends, how about making 2 kinds of CDs?

One for multiple "platforms" EEEPC(or netbooks), High end PC, low end PC(modified 109 or lighter Puppy even older versions).

The other is for multi flavours of puppies such as Woof(now UPup?), Slaxer_Pup, and others. They are still in the process of making, I know. I mean sometime in the future.

This is a bit out of the topic but,

We have so many Puppies here coming out almost daily. We have to choose the finest like beauty contests(cool looking. I vote for MU's works) and racing games(I mean the fastest Puppy(ies))

Putting a graphical menu using autorun.ini and a flash file made exe to choose organized and well explained puppies would be great.

Like Barry and Lobster said, well organized Puppy CD is a good idea and how about a magazine cover disk for such as Linux format(UK)

Just my humble suggestion.

A superb idea, all the best with it. Its a shame Ecopup is nearly 600mb (but you do get 2.15ce thrown in free ;-) ) and its renamed "eco_save.2fs" files dont conflict with other puppies...perhaps for the DVD version? Its had some good reviews and is aimed at "linux newbies".

Self puplet-promotion over

:D Hello,
@Lobster,
After many failed attempts, trying every method suggested on the forum, and beyond, I came across the attached in an old forum post that I cant find or I`d link to it....
It has a read me file that explains everything.. So easy even I can do it!!! :D
Even has directory`s setup for DSL and other Distros..
Suggestion...use GrafBurn...BurnISO2CD made coasters with it....

@Subito Piano,
Yes, I agree, with some Pups..However, these 3 Pups are designed for uses that require fairly high end machines anyhow.. Plus. they wont fit on 1 CD... :(
I understand the DVD size ISO`s arent copacetic to the Puppy Downloaders, but as advertisement or a mag CD it would be great..
As for "Downloadable"
How about 7 Official releases of Puppy on 1 CD...

109ce
215ce
217
301
400
412
420

The "Pedigree" CD.... :D :D :D

This is exciting !
OK Wolf Pup gets the credit, but it's time to refurbish this with newer up to date puplets.
Size is no problem, since all those puppies will still be downloadable individually for those concerned with machines and bandwidth limitations.
It is also true that there are so many puplets coming out, it's getting confusing for newbies, and we might consider categorizing them: Graphic, Audio, Video, Office, Games, etc...
I'd love to see a war driving puplet, sort of Backtrack 3 or 4 with wifi apps that runs on netbooks, you can't carry your router along on journeys.
Puppyluvr, I have a 16 GB usb stick, just waiting for your first 4 DVD iso... ;)

Any progress?

#13 Post by puppyiso »

Puppyluvr,

I know you are busy but any progress yet?

If the bandwidth is the problem, torrent would be a good answer.

Or, just post how should we download favorite puppies and assemble as one CD or DVD or 16GB USB.(Ahh...I just misplaced my 4GB USB. Did anyone see it? )

How about Ubuntu way? Just mail them CDs postage paid by receiver.

As I mentioned this might have is that they would all use a pup_save.2fs file with the same name. This would produce a lot of corrupted pup_save.2fs's

A bit of tedious work, but you could extract all of the pup_xxx's and initrd.gz;s and run a global search/replace on the text inside for "pup_save" and replace with "pup412_save", "pup420_save" etc etc

Then all the puppies on the DVD would work independently, with no accidental "upgrades".

May I suggest puppy 2.14r for inclusion too, it has many advanced feature over other 2 series puppies. Geexbox (10mb) and DBAN (2mb) would be a "nice to have" too and would fill any "slack space".

:D Hello,
Thankfully, Puppy offers the option to custom name your pupsave. :D

The Pups I`m using are all 4.12 based...I`m looking into "consolidating" all of the "community property" they all have in common, using Midnight Commander to compare...

Basically, this idea is intended to run "live CD/DVD"
I`m close to getting it on one CD....

Also, maybe a base 412 boot, and 3 sfs files, bootable on the fly, either seperatly, or together... 8)........... IDK yet...

That is a great 'showcase taster'
Go for 4.2.1 if possible and not too late.

Hope you get connected again soon
Internet connection would be a priority for me :)
Do you have any children you could sell?
[many apologies that is in very poor taste
- maybe you could sell a kidney instead?]

@puppyluvr

Thanks for keeping us updated...sorry youve lost your connection. There is always one way....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHq-cKoYcr8

But its very naughty ;-)

In terms of creating a DVD that would give people a taste of the whole puppy experience, can I suggest you include fewer "official" versions (keep to say 2.14r, the most advanced of 2 series, and 4.21 which is very pretty), and include some of the derivitives such as gamepup, watchdog, muppy etc.

I hope you will also document the method you used to create the DVD, so others can follow it, that would be very helpful indeed.
