I got interviewed!
I got interviewed!
Hello all,
I just had to tell you, yesterday I got a visit from a journalist for the local PC World magazine. He wanted to know about my experience with Puppy and Linux in general. He's writing an article about small Linux distros and their fitness to use on old machines. It's a relevant issue here in Peru, where many public entities have old computers, and there's also a very active second-hand computer market.
So we had a two-hour talk, then he took a couple pictures, and I burned a Puppy CD for him. Alas, I did not have my custom CD ready, but I got to show him my Spanish language Puppy desktop (complete with a Brazilian model wallpaper)...
The article should come out in the December 15th issue. I'll send you a copy, as soon as I get it.
As for my custom CD experience, I'll post it elsewhere.
Warmest greetings from Peru,
Oswaldo Bellido

Good news Ozzy
The welcome program I have just simplified
would be ideal to modify with specific links and pages relevant to your version

Look forward to hearing more when published

Nice script, will translate!
Hello Lobster!
I just got your Welcome script. I'll translate it to Spanish and upload it back to your thread and to the "menu in other languages" thread.
Thanks a lot!

Regarding Dex's question
Hello Dex,
As I said before, the journalist was mostly interested in the possible application of Puppy in a "production environment", that is, for instance, in a public office with aging computers. I think he was impressed with the fact that I burned him a Puppy CD from my Puppy desktop. He mentioned some other Linux compact distro that couldn't recognize his CD burner.
Also, I showed him an Open Office Writer document, and I showed him how fast does it go when running from RAM. Then, I showed him my Spanish language version of Firefox. Too bad I wasn't online at that moment, but still, he was pleased at the familiar Firefox interface. It seems on some other Linux distro, Firefox looked... different.
In the end, I think Puppy did make a good impression on him. I gave him a Chubby Puppy 1.0.5 CD. I intend to send him a Spanish Puppy, as soon as I finally learn how to make the most of the available scripts.

Ozzy, sounds great! Didn't see you on Puppy kennel map:
http://www.frappr.com/puppykennels
You're putting Puppy on the map in Peru, & you'd be the first shown from there. If you want to...

the interview just came out!
Hello all,
Yesterday the interview appeared in page 66 of the local PC World magazine.
I just tried sending here the scanned page of my interview. However, the scanned page generated a file over 1.5 MB big, so it wouldn't fit this system. If anyone's interested, please send me a PM.
I probably should translate this, being as it is in Spanish. However, I'd like to see if someone else here will step up to it (sirexel or rarsa, maybe?)
Wrmest greetings from Peru,
Oswaldo

I think puppians forum allows uploading files of 2 mb.
for a brief translation, google might work.
Funny results, but at least you can understand more or less what was written about.

Re: the interview just came out!
Congratulations
Also scanners (used to - is this still true?) tend to scan in Tiff - converting to jpg or png will make them smaller . . .
and or upload the file here (it will be resized anyways)
http://tinypic.com/
highlight the resulting URL after placing it a forum post
and click on the "img" button

I posted the article image and its translation
Hello all,
I went to Puppian's forum and there I finally posted the scanned image of the article and its English translation. It was a little odd, translating what someone else said about me...
Anyway, here's the link:

A smaller version 170k (rather than 1550k) can be found here for those who understand Spanish and have slower connections
http://tinypic.com/ivag4n.jpg
To create the smaller (still readable image) I used mtpaint
I halved the image size (using scale canvas)
and saved as a jpg (with 65% compression)
Cheers Oz - the plants behind you are geraniums? One is a lemon geranium?
As official cructacean (a duty I take very seriously) and Foundation publicity officer it is always great to hear Puppy news . . .

Puppy in Spanish?
Dear Oswaldo:
As I understand you are working in a Spanish version of PuppyLinux? Can you update us in the status of the translation?
Thanks in advance,
Roberto
