[OPEN]4.2.1RC2 Freeze of installations using .PET files

This is for bugs in a version of Puppy 4.x that is still under development. If you have bugs for a released version of Puppy, please post them in the forum's main Bugs section, not here. Bugs are when a program does not function as intended. Usability issues are not bugs.

[OPEN]4.2.1RC2 Freeze of installations using .PET files

#1 Post by Sylvander »

1. Installation of "X File Explorer"[Xfe]:
Used .PET files linked in post #24 HERE.

(a) First installed the Fox-library 1.6.31...
The %CPU usage jumped to 100% [as would be expected], but it stayed there for far too long, and the OS remained unresponsive [cursor OK].
No display of the completion of the installation.
I used "Ctrl+Alt+backspace" to drop to a command prompt and issued the command xwin to come back into Puppy.
The Fox-library was shown as installed by the Puppy Package Manager.

(b) Installed Xfe...
Pretty much the same as in (a) above.
Xfe was shown as installed and seems to be working OK.

2. See post #98 HERE.
Used the .PET file linked there to install.
Things seemed to be improving; this install completed and reported missing dependencies, which I'd seen in previous installs, but this never caused a problem.
This time I was seeing problems in the use of Firefox.
e.g. If I click a weblink...
Firefox is configured to open a new tab...
But firefox is instead shutting down.
Isn't happening right now.
I'd seen this before with the original release of 4.2.1
Glitches seemed to improve or disappear with use! :?

Forgot to mention the very important fact that the above applies to Puppy Linux 4.2.1 release 2 of 2009 May 10th.
