214 HD install

No matter what I do I cannot install this on the hd. I get a lot of "init is parent". Is there an extra file to add to the / dir, or is there something I should be adding to menu.1st
?

I have a 214X16 frugal install on HDD which boots perfectly with grub. The menu.lst reads...

Code: Select all

# Linux bootable partition config begins
title Puppy214X Frugal-ext3 (on /dev/hdb6)
rootnoverify (hd1,5)/214
kernel (hd1,5)/214/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram0 PMEDIA=atahd PDEV1=hdb6 PUPMODE=12 SFSFILE=ext3,hdb6,/214/pup_214R.sfs ZDRV=ext3,hdb6,/214/zdrv_214R.sfs PUPSAVE=ext3,hdb6,/214/pup_save-214.3fs
initrd (hd1,5)/214/initrd.gz
# Linux bootable partition config ends
The subdirectory "214" on hdb6 contains
vmlinuz
initrd.gz
pup_214R.sfs
zdrv_214R.sfs
pup_save-214.3fs

Note you must use hdb not sdb, even if you have a sata drive!

Maybe you can adopt this to your setup?

Hi MHHP,
That's very kind. It's ups and downs but I know she will make it but it'll be so tough for her.
Nice to know how kind the folk here are. It keeps me sane at the moment.
Cheers

Hi Greg,
Cheers mate.
But she's the one who has to really go through all this trauma with a halo brace for the next few months. It breaks my heart.
But you guys are terrific.

Well dave we've been there, Like my wife about 1.5yrs ago had an operation on her spine, one of her disc was crushing a nerve, so they had to shave the disc and move the nerve. One error and she would of been paralyzed. Recovery took months, she was bed ridden for like 6 weeks after, So I was like super dad/husband for like 6 weeks. Sure she was hard to deal with, plus the added extra duties etc, but we worked at it, and well today she's in a lot less pain, still has some but she's working on it.

Hi guys, you've all been a great help in 2.14X, I've settled on a woof for Xo and also to continue fun with, Its puppy 4.3.1 renamed 4.60, You can fin the DL link http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=48984
I'm going to continue the regular desktop version and try to add OLPC to it, worst case I'll make 3 versions, regular puppy, XO, and the occasional retro. So feel free to join the thread and lend a hand for a good cause.

Dave, life is short enough to forget things that real care.

I´ll say health and friendship shall be the top in everyone list. Don´t forget that people´s friendship gives love with not regrets and also gives support were it is needed (intellectual, phisical or mental support).

You are not alone mate, we will accompany you in your pain.

This really makes me feel very humble and I can't think of a better example of the friendliness of this community and especially the "214X gang."
Thanks fellows.

Now where's that 214X RC ttuuxxx... Only joking. :-)

Cheers

ttuuxx,
you mentioned in a previous post that retro editions might be on the cards at a later stage - what about a barebones (BB) edition? I keep imagining that a sub-50Mb 214X, with a touchscreen pet added, would be fabulous ported over into an old ARM- or XScale-based PDA, and help weed out the WinCE. I think it would do a much better job than the Angstrom distro anyways. Not being of the computerlitterati however I might well be barking entirely up the wrong tree...
Again, I'm very appreciative of you and all your collaborators for structuring such a beaut puplet/off-shoot/redux as 214X, though I wonder whether you could repackage most of the apps as optionally-extra SFS's to get a sub-50Mb BB up and running? Perhaps you could nickname it as a "neckbrace" (NB) edition, given the nature of the recent thread hijacking?

davesurrey and GF,
I was horrified when news of the accident was first posted - I know of no way to state my support for strangers in your situation that won't appear glib or shallow, other than my heart goes out to you both, and you are never really far from my thoughts. There may be dark times ahead in the path to full recovery, but hang in there.

Dave,

Sorry to hear about your girlfriend  ,but glad to hear she will recover. :) I'm certain it will be a long hard road for both of you, but just take it one day at a time and I'll keep both of you in my prayers.
