Putty is great choice. Supports SSH1 and 2, RSA and DSA keys, supports copy and paste. Works flawlessly. It is great tool for maintaining linux server from command line. I think linux admins still use that kind of tool for remote administration with secure keys. For me it was mostly used tool many years.
Well, when admin need stopped, I havent used it at all for three years.

Merry Christmas. We have white Christmas here. A lot of new snow.

Can people test this file Firewall/iptables asap and see if it works :) If it does I'll toss it in, it has a nicer GUI.

The Firewall GUI is nice, I Could block pings and set Default General policies, but I could not set my personal rules I always get errors messages about check ports and address... This application seems unfinished.

In about window the close button doesn´t work. Also found very annoying that each personal rule added can´t be edited, you only can add/delete if you want to change something.

It needs some work, may be for a later 214X release.

P.D: Please don´t forget to add a menu entry for Remote Desktop.

Thanks Aitch :)
Funny when I was working on 4.2 and we were in beta mode WhoDo placed a lock on new apps, and RC status was just fixes, hmmm maybe that's the way it should be, but if you look at the almost 30 updates/additions/fixes I made, lol in a RC2, well I've never been one to follow the straight and narrow. :) I'm enjoying this so lets have some fun with it :)

I kind of figured that about the Firewall, If anyone can figure it out and submit a how-to or preconfigured defaults, that would e good, actually I had to hack the configure script a bit to get rid of the gnome deps and was amazed when it compiled without error :)

Hi ttuuxxx, It´s working really good after half hour. No more segmentation faults...

I can kill any application and Superswitcher still works without any problem.

Thank you,

clarf

Thanks for the early Christmas present, ttuuxxx. :) It's 10:30 pm December 24th here so this was a nice holiday surprise.

Already installed on my trusty P3 test box and in the process of trying everything out. Looks like your usual great job.......

Here's hoping everyone has a safe and happy holiday.

Downloaded 214XRC2 and ran as a Live CD on a 2004 laptop. N-i-c-e!

Selected all the defaults upon initial boot-up, with the exception of the 1024x768 16 bit color resolution. Selected 1024x768 24 bit color and ran TEST instead; the test worked -- and the final selection took me to a totally black screen. No cursor, no icons, nada. Rebooted, and chose Xvesa -- looks good, but no drive icons on the bottom left of screen. Rebooted and just selected ALL defaults (16 bit color), and everything came up normal. Not my machine, and I don't have the specs -- but if the specs are desired, I can ask for them later.

Would not play a DVD from the optical drive. Gave these GUI error messages:

"Read error from: /dev/dvd", and
"The xine engine failed to start. No input plugin was found. Maybe the file does not exist or cannot be accessed, or there is an error in the URL."

So, I created an absolute link (re-)named dvd in the /dev directory to the CDROM icon from the desktop (see below image) and it worked.

Don't know if this was (is) a correct fix or not, but a guy's gotta' do what a guy's gotta' do....

All in all, this is a REALLY nice Puppy with a lot of thought apparent in the design. You guys are great!

Two more things while I have internet access:

1) May everybody here have a Merry Christmas!

2) Does anybody have an opinion (or source) on which Skype dot-pet would work best with 214X?

(Of course, none of our above posts here are intended to be negative -- but rather as informative feedback.)

Thanks, ttuuxxx!

I am wondering about my "fix" for playing DVD movies, though. I don't see a dvd link in 431's /dev, so I am certain that the real solution is elsewhere....

With only my best wishes throughout this holiday season,

-Roy

Hi Roy I don't have a issue with the DVD playback what so ever, It works perfect for my 3 home pc's, I don't have to make links or anything, I just open gxine and select File/DVD and it works, I wonder why you have issues. Anybody else with dvd issues?
Also best wishes to you and your family :)
