Dave:

Thank you for the kind words, you makes me blush

ttuuxxx:

As far as I know there were no changes to network wizard in previous release, it seems a driver problem...

In fact connectwizard script is just a frontend to launch net-setup.sh (Network Wizard) or gkdial.

I uploaded an updated version for my dropbear launcher, just a small change to start the key generation code in background and make the dropbear Server GUI starts a little faster...

Hugh :

Could you please post output when you try to manually load the PCI driver.

What a modprobe -r "driver" and the modprobe "driver" shows?. Could you please post your /tmp/bootkernel.log file.

Greetings,
clarf

I've been working on the next release for 2 days now,lol I wanted to implement a better home finance software the one in 2.14X is really old and not that good, So we have 2 options Grisbi or Homebank, I did supply earlier in this current release a Grisbi package but didn't have feedback on it, So lets look at it, Grisbi by far is the nicer looking application, It has more features, Its also maybe 200kb, larger compressed, due to the 760kb in flag icons, lol
During the 4.2 build a lot of people wanted Homebank with .ofx support, So I built 2 packages one for the main release and one for the others that do online banking eg ofx, made a lot of people real happy.
. the reason why I made 2 packages is that to have online banking built into the application itself it uses a couple really large libs,
libosp.so.5.0.0 <--2MB extracted and stripped
libofx.so.4.0.1 <-- 265kb
compressed those libs add around 1.2MB, Just to do online banking and import ofx files.
The end result would be around 2MB Finance Suite, I could even add Homebank for a extra 300kb and it could use the same libs :) Like I stated in the past with Gnumeric, that I don't use it, never have, don't need it and takes like 5MB compressed and is only good for one thing, Where as this home Finance software could be used by more people than Gnumeric and its under 1/2 the size. hmmm what to do, any ideas guys? Grisbi full or stripped down version ?

lol do those flags ever compress it went from 760kb expanded to 56kb compressed when I removed them and repackaged it. Not really worth removing 190 flags to save 56kb, lol

Finance Software

#2782 Post by FlyingRedGoat »

I like Homebank enough to have switched to puppy for it.

I would at least keep it as a pet. Home finance is one of those things that is not important until you desperately need it.

Either way, as long as there is finance software of some kind available, it shouldn't make much difference. Besides, you have shown really good taste, I'm sure we don't have to worry about it.

I think I'll go with the small Grisbi package and have a upgrade, The reason why is that Grisbi can import all the file formats HomeBank plus it can import GnuCash files which from looking at HomeBank doesn't.
Also Grisbi works on plugins, where as Homebank doesn't. So building a plugin/lib package would be easy.

here's a version of Rdesktop that won't work on any older version of 2.14X, only on 2.14XRC3 +, Its for the next release and is patched for Gnutls, not Openssl, Should work on other puppies with gnutls, not only did I have to patch but newer gnutls 2.8+ no longer comes with a libgnutls-config scrtipt, So I went hunting and found one, then I edited the code and tried and it worked first shot :)
So will be included also :)

Many thanks ttuuxxx.

clarf
well I've done that and so for its been a nightmare, Rdesktop, Streamtuner, Gftp, Transmission,Ghasher are dead. I recompiled Rdesktop as described above and now works. Streamtuner and Gftp I made some system links to the Gnutls and changed the name and version numbers to ssl ones and they started up and worked, transmission, ghasher on the other hand gives me symbol lookup error: transmission-gtk: undefined symbol: SHA1_Ini
and ghasher: undefined symbol: OpenSSL_add_all_digests

So I guess I'll recompile it. lol this next version will need a lot of testing, CLARFFFFFFF, lol
its all fun and games, Just means maybe one more RC before the final after this one.
ttuuxxx

Ps i'll keep adding to the list, lol

Ghasher will be replaced with a new version of gtkhash, ghasher hasn't been updated in a few years, but gtkhash is updated all the time.

Hmmmm I would hate to start over but it looks like I might have to stick with Openssl, all web reports on OpenSSL vs Gnutls always says that Gnutls is faster, more secure, and overall better. Well Ghasher, Transmissions haven't been converted, patched, upgraded for Gnutls. That said these apps would be a no go without adding Openssl. I'm just wondering how many apps aren't Gnutls capable as of yet, I'm a strong believer that simple apps should compile and if they can't, the OS isn't very good, lol man talking about 2 days wasted work.
This is what I've installed on the next release that I'm about to dump and start over, plus all the other apps I posted on here. well atleast i still have all the files and sources that will save time :) CLARFFFFFFFFFFF lol lol lol

Hi ttuuxxx,

I´m sorry you have to start over again. I know you are working in many projects at same time and this time is limited... although we know actual support state for Gnutls :) ...

ttuuxxx seriously talking, OpenSSL libraries seems to work as you pointed before these are needed for many apps. But some binaries does not work, like I posted before ssh-agent and ssh-keygen don´t work. It´s 54KB and 94KB of wasted space...

ttuuxxx sorry again for the inconvenience and if you need any help feel free to ask.

Greetings,
clarf

Thanks sinc, I'm going to need some feedback to be sure I post everything everyone thinks should be there. I started updating over the weekend and quickly realized that I still had the original downloads on a backup drive from when my desktop died back in November.

I've got everything on the server, now its just a matter of listing everything that we talked about actually posting. Hope to have it ready this week.

Keep poking at me so I don't get too caught up in other projects!

no problem, clarf I was laughing my head off when I was putting your name in caps, lol
I look at it this way, we both don't know everything about Linux, but at least we learned something new together today. lol
oh by the way dillo is dead also, lol I guess gnutls would be good for some apps, but its too large to keep both.
