But, then I set my locale to sv_SE (for testing, I don't usually set my locale) and result can be seen in screenie 1; setting the locale back to the dreaded default, en_US :P , produces screenie 2 (which shows some strange, but seemingly, unimportant error messages).

If you install http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... es-2.5.pet
I bet that locale you tried works :)

I can confirm the locales in usr/lib work, the locales from 2.14R don't work in /mnt/dvd/zdrv_214R.sfs, So I guess I'll have to change them like the ones in usr/lib, should be easy enough, lol touch wood.

Still running 2.14x5 at the moment, full install..733 mhz, 256 mb ram, 1 gb swap. ( I have x6 downloaded but not installed yet.)

Firefox 3.5 is working great.I have full installs of Debris 1.50 w/FF3.0.10; Puppy 4.20 "Deeper Thought" w/Firepup, Seamonkey and Opera 10;
Puppy 4.12 w/ Firepup,Seamonkey and Opera 9.64 and so far 2.14x5 w/FF 3.5 seems to be the most stable and has the best flash performance of all. Watching Youtube or whatever there is barely a flicker , works really smoothly. No crashes or lockups yet either.

Very impressive.

Hi James yes This looks like the best version of puppy for FF3.5 and flash 10, Actually I don't think any version has had this much attention to upgrading the backend, usually its just video/wifi fixes and not so much radical removal/upgrades of libraries, I'm still amazed with so many changes that it actually boots up, lol And It looks like its getting to be better all the time, Its nice and stable also, I've learned a lot by jumping in with both feet. Still has a couple small issue, but nothing really compared to what I started with, and the guys have been a great help with finding answers/fixes.

Hi ttuuxxx, well done. Any thoughts on a barebones version.

MHHP, tried pupshots-v2p03, didn't work for me(save settings that is), also the save button doesn't look very solid.

a barebones version, OMG I think my brain would explode all over, lol
If there was originally a unleashed package of 2.14.1R (The current base) I would of been building packages and removing the older ones, but since I didn't have that to go off, I've been editing the SFS files manually and you kind of have to think about everything your doing when you do it that way and always have to backup the previous SFS to have something to fall back on, If it was a case of unleashed that would be simple, just don't include what I ever package, but being that its a edited SFS, each and every file from each directory would have to manually removed, some apps have a 100 files, lol Then I would have to edit the devx also, which I've been manually upgrading as I go.
You know what I like a challenge, When this is all said and done, I'll release some sort of Barebones. Probably wouldn't be that hard since most main files are in directory folders. I also was thinking of some sort of bloated version, maybe with gimp, icewm, inkscape, mplayer. But that will be way later on :)

Something about squash (SFS) file sizes That I've noticed, I just removed 35MB expanded of locales and remade the zdrvrr_214R.sfs, just to see how much smaller it would be with them gone well it was only 2MB smaller. So really the whole Iso could be reduced by 2MB if I ditched the locales and kept en_us as default, but I'm not prepared to do that. :)

User technosaurus has compiled the latest version of abiword as static, this has solved about 80% of the messed up font issues seen in 4.2, Plus the fonts that wouldn't work, are not really all that great to start with, So this is great news, Well I think so anyways, lol So I took his package add a missing library wv, fixed the spellcheck because that wouldn't work, and removed the nonfunctional leftover fonts, all in all it looks pretty good. So here's a tester version just install it and refresh menus.
http://www.ttuuxxx.gposil.com/2.14X/doc ... 6-214X.pet
also he has addon pet package that could be added but I'm more worried about the base, also if possible could someone test docX and see if that works, I looks for a example and couldn't find the one I had before.

ttuuxxx,
something happened when you worked on the xorg-scripts, in 214X6 xorgwizard is run at every boot, and also if X Server is restarted :? . Had none of these problems in 214X4

If you change some setting, say, format png, then tick the "save settings" box, take the shot, is png or jpg default next time Pup-Shots is run? :?:

Hi I don't think its a V6 problem more of maybe you corrupted something, because you just state even when you restart X server the wizard comes up, I've done it about 20 times already searching for errors in /tmp and not once did the wizard startup again,

Has anyone else restarted X-Server and had to deal with the Xorg setup wizard? or does it just go to your desktop like it should???

This version on HDD

#797 Post by tony »

Hi,

Always been a fan of 214R so tried to put this version on HDD.

The universal installer could not find pup_214R.sfs on CD, said it couldn't find pup_214.sfs.

Copied CD files to HDD renamed pup_214R to pup_214.sfs.

Still no luck

Regards Tony

Well I consider that good news :), the reason why people were having issues with it and I used the one from 215ce, hmmm I wonder why it wasn't asking for 215, anyways I'll try to fix it :) and post a update.

Hi tony go to /etc/puppyversion
and (right click, open as text) and change that to 214R and it should work. I just tried it and it worked ;) It didn't until I made the change.

could you delete /etc/X11/xorg.conf
and restart xorg wizard and setup again, maybe your xorg.conf was damaged somehow.
once you get back to jwm then restart-X Server again and see if the wizard reappears or if all is fixed?
