Puppy 4.2.1 Final
" shame .avi support in this area has been dropped "
I hadn't tested that, so I tried yesterday.
I agree that this also should have been attended to.
Though of course when you drag the Gxine icon into
the run action...then it also works.....annoying though.
I did the same for DVD ISO movies as well.
Minisys Muppy used to open ISO movies by default.
Strangely Seamonkey crashed a couple of times.
I've heard reports of this before.
I actually tried out Firepup as a replacement.
Good work...no crashes.
Chris.

Well, the good new is Ttuuxxx has agreed to make incremental updates to bugs like this in 4.2.1 until woof is "stable".

Ive entered it in the bugs section so he knows what issues to resolve

Yes I did say that and will do that as once as Warren has told me that he has stopped with updates and will no longer be producing bug fix releases. I will not step on his toes, but I will keep the series moving forward if need be.ecomoney wrote:Well, the good new is Ttuuxxx has agreed to make incremental updates to bugs like this in 4.2.1 until woof is "stable".

get madwifi pet from this page:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=34159
click install it.
then use the search function to search for ath_pci.ko and then delete (backup or move it to my_documents) the ath_pci.ko that is not in the madwifi folder ( it is the smaller ath_pci.ko at 115K that has to be removed). then restart.

Upgrades are commonly problematic, and of course, in your case the wifi driver was installed from a dotpet.FriedelBumm wrote:but the upgrade to 4.2.1 doesn't find the ath0 wifi device.
All you probably need to do is reinstall madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r3861-k2.6.25.16.pet
No no. madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r3861-k2.6.25.16.pet definitely installs the updated ath_pci.ko module intoaarf wrote:get madwifi pet from this page:

/lib/modules/2.6.25.16/madwifi
and overwrites the original version. I just checked again now.
If you have ath_pci.ko anywhere else, it's not from my dotpet.
I'm currently on the moon (actually I'm back on earth, but I wrote this post while still on the moon)tempestuous wrote: No no. madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r3861-k2.6.25.16.pet definitely installs the updated ath_pci.ko module into

the ath_pci.ko I removed was in this folder:
/lib/modules/2.6.21.7/net/
it was 116Kin size. wifi failed to work before I removed it and worked after I did.
I'll go searching for the pets/dotpups I used, as I was playing around for quite a while over a day or two before I could get this to work and I have some older pets/dotpups along with newly downloaded ones.
attached image of pets used first dpets.jpg that failed. then added to that also the second image dpetsmad.png after further playing. still failed, before deleting
/lib/modules/2.6.21.7/net/ath_pci.ko made it work. haven't actually added the aircrack yet.

You have installed an incompatible version of the Eee ath_pci driver.aarf wrote:the ath_pci.ko I removed was in this folder:

madwifi-ng-r2756-eeepatch-k2.6.21.7.pet is ONLY for Puppy versions with the 2.6.21.7 kernel; Puppy 3.x and 4.0.
Note that my driver dotpets always include the kernel version in their names.
Be careful about where you obtain your dotpets. That driver was posted in the thread "Extras for Puppy 3.x and 4.0"
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 643#153643
Clearly, it's not suitable for Puppy 4.1/4.2.
Yes, the directory path for the ath_pci module was different with this earlier kernel. That was Barry's decision when he added third-party drivers at the time.
The aircrack variant of the Eee wifi driver is only necessary if you want to use the aircrack utility for wardriving/WEP-cracking.aarf wrote:haven't actually added the aircrack yet.
can you see something wrong with page or is it just me that it is annoying?

Do you know any safe way to remove bling so my pc is speeder?

Puppy 4.2.1 Final
I'm running Puppy 4.0 on my laptop. It has a P II 255, 96Meg of RAM and a 3 Gig hard disk. It's a full install, not a frugal. Which version of Puppy should I upgrade to, and what's the best way? (I know Puppy checks for upgrade on boot, so I'm presuming there's a way to do it without a complete reinstall.)

puppy 4.2 and 4.2.1 for some reason is slower to start the desktop than 4.1.2 puppys getting slow

impossible to write "@" in Seamonkey
I recently downloaded Puppy 4.2.1. and made a CD
Then i booted with pfix=ram.
I choose swedish keyboard
( += I think Puppy 4.2 looks nice (just like 4.1) )
For me one of the best things with puppy is that i can use the same CD on many different computers. for example my laptop is more silent with Puppy (the CPU-fan runs for shorter periods than with windows).
in seaMonkey in puppy 4.1 i could not write e-mails in hotmail without using a pup-save.2fs-file , so I really wanted to try Puppy 4.2.1
BUT now i wasn't able to write @. i dont know how you write @ with English keyboard, With a swedish keyboard we push "Alt Gr" together with the key labeled @ (which also is the key for "2"). When i did this, Seamonkey was minimized and when i Maximized it again no @ had been written. i also tryed to write @ in Geany but it no "@" show up.
this "happend" on a desktop with a 2GHz pentium4 and i think the motherboard is from COMPAQ. I had no problems writing @ in Puppy 4.1 so i was surprised i cant do this in 4.2.1
does this only happend to me?, or Is there a solution?
(I'm sorry for my poor english),
/kind regards from a swedish puppy-user since puppy 2.14

12 April I reported the problem with Alt Gr and @, and to fix the problem, you can read on page 13 of the thread Puppy 4.2 "Deep Thougth" Bugs & Fixes. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... &start=180

Yes, The "Xorg-settings" made the @-key work on my computer
Thanks janee!
This settings in "Advanced Xorg keyboard configuration" worked for me too, (it made it possible to type @).
I havent spent much time with Puppy for the last days, but i would probably have needed a couple of days to figure this out by myself.
I think its a little strange to place pure keyboard-settings under the group/headline including Xorg, ( does this mean you will not be able to reach @ if you use the Xvesa driver instead ? ).
I am now able to see, Just like Puppy 4.1 the same problem still remains in 4.2 when you like to create a mail in hotmail, so i think I hold on to Pup 4.1 for a while, it is a little easier to start 4.1 if you want to start from CD only and with swedish keyboard (when you want to use a computer for internet).

Re @ with AltGr
I have only used the Xorg and FRUGAL installation on USB memory so I need only change one time for it to work well for me.
I find it strange they have added the word (latin1) in Puppy 4.2.1 in the choice of Swedish keyboard when running Live CD, maybe someone has confused Sweden with Switzerland ?.

Where did y'all hide the devx.sfs for 4.2.1, please?
I need to compile a module to run xmblackberry
Also, I guess that I need the "kernel source sfs files" as well.
